Alright...maybe someone on here can help me out.

I just got Tom Clancy's GRAW 2 today for Valentine's Day...yes my girlfriend loves me.

So I installed it and everything but the Ageia Physx app is giving me trouble. I go to install it off the disc and after the user agreement it goes to a fatal error prompt saying the "Installation ended prematurely due to error. I then made sure my NVIDIA was up to date (and yes its supported...GRAW supports series 6/7/8 and mines a 6200 series).

I then just downloaded Physx from Ageia's site thinking maybe the disc was bad (maybe????).

But alas...to no avail. Same menu.

Anyone know why?

I updated my windows and everything.

WHY CAN'T I JUST PLAY MY GAME!???!

I believe you have to own a physx card to run the app? Otherwise, the website says you need version 7.07.24 or higher to run GRAW2.

Looks like the version history is riddled with compatibility issues too. I'd try on a completely different computer.

LOL so I will have to buy a different computer to run it??!?!

So if I don't have the physx card but I have the version 7.02.24 or higher it theoretically should work?

Because not only is the version that comes WITH the game higher than that...the one I downloaded of their site is version 7.11.blah blah something.

Damn.

If you have a Fry's electronics close by, and if not, Best Buy will price match them.

I just got an Nvidia GeForce 8600GT for $129. They were suppose to match Fry's price of $139. but the cashier rang it up as $129. and I kept my pie hole shut. It is an awesome card, and I have no regrets for the price. I copied the specs from my post in the OC forums...

Yeah, I think so.

Graphics card has NOTHING to do with Physx issues.

To clarify the first statement:I'm fairly sure you need a Physx accelerator card to use the Physx software. BUT Graw 2 should have a non-physx mode for people without the accelerator and software (considering the fact that about 4 people on earth actually have them). You shouldn't need the physx software or accelerator to run GRAW--only to run it at top-spec settings.

See thats what I figured. To buy a damn game you shouldn't have to buy some semi-obscure card just to run this game. Thats why I can't understand whats going on.

I know I SHOULD upgrade my card...but to be honest...I don't HAVE $120 to spend on a card yet and I shouldn't have to considering my card is within spec.

I know I'm not gonna have the BEST graphics...but it should work.

This sucks.

^ no it was a brief idea to run physics cards seperatly. all newer cads (8 series) has it integrated just go with that $129 8600 seems like the perfect deal for u,

oh and just cause you bearly squeeze into the lowest end of the requirments does not mean it is guarented to work. I saw that need for speed says it would run on a 2g cpu for min requirements and there is no way my 2.6 duo was struggling to keep frame rates around 30 on mid graphic settings before i overclocked it again. Now its about 3.2 and it keeps it steady at about 40 on the highest settings. Just trust me old tech is more of a pain in the *** then what a new card is gonna cost you. I know computers suck they need upgraded so much, but im just tellin you the truth.

both Graw and Graw 2 require installation of the physx application to run, BUT DO NOT ACTUALLY REQUIRE A PHYSX CARD! - just to clarify that.

As far as the error, what OS do you have? Any recent updates that might affect the install? (Possibly one of the recent .net updates?)

Well thats good to know...

I have Windows XP. As far as updates...idk to be honest...every couple weeks I run updates through Firefox from WindizUpdate.com.

How would I check and see my recent updates??

you can go into the add/remove programs and click the checkbox on the top that shows the windows updates. But the best way, because all the updates are just number+letter combinations, would be to just go and actually do a new update scan.

The physx install does require XP service pack 2, but i think it's extremely unlikely you don't have that installed. (but to check go to control panel --> system, and it will display the version of XP).

The only reason i keep IE on my computer is for updating windows, which i check about once a week probably. So fire up IE and hit the windows update option.

Alright...I'm in the process of running the actual windows update.

As for the XP service pack 2 I do have that.

I'll update you on how my...update...goes.

Just becareful about the recent update, in the last week's Windows updates for XP, one of them has crashed a bunch of computers in many different offices around here. I'm reasonably sure it's not regional since it seems to be in other states as well...

well with it being the physx app, i'm not sure if it's a card issue. For the sake that your running a 6200, i agree you should upgrade the card solely for that, but i'm not sure if that's gonna work.

i did some testing with my system. i've got a 7900gs, AMD X2 4800+, 4gb ddr800, and used to run the original GRAW just fine. So i went and installed the newest version of physx and everything worked out alright. No error during install, no errors using anything that references to the physx stuff.

Should have asked this earlier, but if you look over your full system specs, does everything check out for requirements for both GRAW2 AND the physx app?
