Problem:1995 sentra hood latch assembly

I just joined.The other day when i went to open up the hood, hood release pull handle pulled on and hood latch did not release, so something broke, the problem, HOW IN THE WORLD CAN I GET THE LATCH TO RELEASE from the outside.I have tried to get the latch to release with long flat blade screwdrivers, getting nowhere.Anyone out there have any suggestions...... I hate to damage the hood and the grill.

Hey guys, i need help to get this hood open, like posted i tried with screw drivers and even a wire coat hanger, so please i need helps.
