I had a whole bunch of custom work done for my Silvia.T3 turbo, all custom piping, FMIC, the works.

Since I was moving up to a much larger turbo I decided I should probably ditch the stock MAF and injectors.I've installed a Z32 MAF and dsm 450cc injectors. To control fuel I installed an HKS S-AFR..BUT.I'm having issues.. just to IDLE my car I have to set the gain WAY up, and to get the car to even RUN requires like 50% gain increases.. does this make sense?

Again this is with both a Z32 MAF and 450cc injectors.. should I be having to max this thing out and STILL running lean???

Or is this indicating I need a new MAF or an injector is pooched?

Btw right now I have the STOCK fuel pump that came with my Silvia, I've got a walbro 255 on the way.. but I don't see how that could be causing this crap even at IDLE.

Here's the thing I am seeing... the HKS AFR doesn't have a specific setting for the Z32 maf. Its just a correction of the voltage coming off the maf itself. You will need at least an eprom upgrade reflecting the Z32 maf and then you can make fuel adjustments for the injector size difference.

Although it doesn't have a specific "memory" of a Z32 I should still be able to pull off the same function using the "gain" feature at the various RPM points.

I got a Honda guru to socket my ECU, I flashed an EPROM with a Liveedit edited rom of the stock ecu with Z32 MAF and 450cc dsms and it ran 100x better! Now I just need to get my buddy's AFR so we can see where fuel needs adding/deleting and I can start tuning!

Does anyone know which Rom Emulators are compatible with Live Edit? Apparently the Moates.net "Ostrich" is not compatible.

The only one confirmed to work is the pocket romulator from http://www.xtronics.com

Romulators are the best. It makes our 8 bit computers very simple to tune youre self.

Except that the CA ECU doesn't like to work with any romulators reliably at all.. else I might have arleady bought one

Is this true or just conjecture?Anyone have experience using the romulators real time?

Grrrr!I had it running yesterday when I had an emulator.I burned a rom and installed it, now it won't start. When I put the key to "start" but before I crank it one of the relays in the engine bay is going click click click click click click..I hope that's just due to the chip and nothing else..Anyone else had any weird experiences after chipping that resulted from a bad ROM burn?

Also the two LEDs on the ECU are on, a green and a red light.

rom is put in correctly?

is the rom larger than the stock one? (128kbit or 16KB) if so you need to copy it back to back to fill the rom space as the ECU will be reading from the top 'bank' of the rom i.e. if you have a 512kbit (64KB) rom, you will need to copy it 4 times to fill the space (512/128=4).

How to do it in DOS:

copy /b rom.bin+rom.bin+rom.bin+rom.bin rom-512k.bin

the /b makes it treat it as binary otherwise it gets silly with intepreting some binary stuff..

Cool thanks, that's exactly what I didn't do.Makes sense now (You can't buy the small chips anymore)I'm still just going to get a romulator so I can tune the car :D

Yeah, you can buy them. Get in touch with John at http://www.jestrtuning.com I just got some from him.

Did you try copying it out tofill the ROM yet?

Don't depend on the romulator, you don't want to have that baggage strapped to the ECU all the time you drive around :D

Not yet!I agree I don't want the romulator ALL the time but my ECU is on the passenger side so it's not too big a deal to have it in there :D

Anyone else running the same setup, Z32 MAF and 450DSM injectors?Besides just adjusting hte injector size and the Z32MAF what other changes did you do in LiveEdit to make the car run more like stock?
