So my can has about 35K miles on it and my last oil change was done with 27k. and the dealer guy told me i need to do a certain service since i was close to the recommended mileage for that service. The service cost about 200-400 dollars O_O, and i have a long road trip coming up soons, about 2k miles all together. My question is should i just do a simple oil change? or go the whole nine yards just to be on the safe side? Thanks for any help here, and i know this is dumb question but been buggin me for awhiles.

What's the type of service the dealer is offering for 200-400 dollars? Do you keep records of all your services? You should do an oil change especially if you're still running on dino oil.

First off, i hope you are on full synthetic, or else you shouldnt be waiting anywheres NEAR that long to do an oil change...

If you have a cvt, the cvt fluid should be changed (drain and refill, not a full flush, leave that for 60k)..

Whats in the services, thats the big question!

Be a little aggressive and ask the details of the service. I thought the CVT was a 30k service but by LBC's post I'm apparently off.

cvt fluid should be changed at 30, but it doesnt need to be FLUSHED...

It just needs to be drained and refilled... theres a big difference (in cost and time) required to do a flush rather than a drain/refill.

do you get special treatment or something? Yes, and to tell you the truth, if you have brought it by there recently at all, im suprised they havent tried to push the cvt fluid change on you..

Sometime soon i will make a thread with mileage markers and all the suggested maintenance for the car.

Remember, drain/refill cvt at 30k, and FLUSH at 60k

Thanks for the info, I decided to just get an oil change before the trip.

This is what the dealer gave me that I would need to do since im @ 34k and its one of those BIG Maintenance thing I gotta do. So here is the list and their price that they gave me. Personally i think this is really expensive, is it suppose to cost this much O_O.

- Service D $545.00 (Got off the QuirkNissan Serivce site)

* Oil & filter service (up to 5 quarts) * Adjust clutch freeplay (if applicable) * Adjust timing & idle * Install BG MOA supplement * Install BG fuel system cleaner * Replace factory wiper inserts * Inspect exhaust system * Inspect drive belts & adjust as needed * Inspect front & rear suspension * Inspect front & rear brakes pads, rotors, callipers &/or shoes & drums * Lubricate hinges & latches * Load test, check charging system * Clean Battery terminals & check connections * Check operation of all lights * Check cooling system: hoses & clamps * Check ignition wires, distributor cap & rotor * Perform cooling system service * Perform transmission service/drain & refill (certain fliuds additional/flush vary by model) * Rotate tires & set tire pressure * Replace air filter * Road test to check perfomance * Top off all fluid levels

This is the recommendation that the Dealership Told me to Get:

- Brake Fluid Flush 129.95

- Power Steering Fluid Flush 99.95

- Replace In-Cabin Micro Filter w/Frgi Fresh Air Cleaner 99.95

- Throttle Body & Air Intake Service Kit/Removes Harmful Gum, Carbon and Varnish Deposits From COmbustion Chambers, Intake Valves, Fuel Injectors 109.95

- Balance 4 Wheels & Tires 49.95

- 4 Wheel Alignment 99.95

Total is 1134.70 Now is this fully necessary or is the dealership just trying to get more money from me -_-

Some of those items are little things that they charge you 0.5-1 hr of labor for but aren't necessary. Anywhere they say "inspect" or "check" is basically you hoping they actually do check, find something and correct it. You can save money and DIY even if you are only half-competent: changing the air filter, changing the in-cabin micro filter, cleaning the throttle body, replacing the wipers, topping off fluids, lubricating hinges, etc.

If you are the type of person who doesn't do your own service, you are going to end up paying for all of these things at some point. Most of the other items do need to be done eventually but you need to decide if they are applicable right now, given your car and driving conditions. Examples of this would be the balance, rotation and alignment.

The in cabin filter is the biggest ripoff... Thats a lot of stuff, I think they are trying to screw you IMO

Yea, 3/4 of that is a rip...

I don't think you need to have everything drained and refilled. The CVT sounds like it should be on top of your list, but the brake fluid doesn't get a work out...I don't think that would be worth 100 at only 30k.

Airfilter for them is probably $75...go to Autozone and buy one for under 10$, tip the guy at the counter $5 and you are all set, haha.

You can get a balance/rotate plan at some tire places for decently cheap. I bought one at a National Tire Battery (NTB) for $125 and it got me 5 years of Allignments/Rotates/Balances. I had hit something so I needed to pay for 1 allignment for 75 or 5 years for $125...I have taken it in for an allignment about 3 times and they did something 2 of those times, this was all on my old Blazer, just something to look into. (I get 1 transfer to a new car, which I used to convert the plan to my Coupe)

Yea...I think it is a case of the Stealership coming to get you.

I'm also close to 30K and when I had my car service for something unrelated, I asked them to check my CVT fluid and the mechanic told me that my CVT fluid is fine and does not need to be changed. Since I don't really race my car and just cruise moderately on the highway, he said I can get away with just changing the CVT fluid at 60K...of course I had that statement put down in writing just in case

BTW,..if you're planning to change your own CVT fluid, you'll need 6 quarts to do the job

And ______ Hours with moderate knowledge.

Can anyone fill in the blank? Is that even a DIY?

Thanks alot guys for the information, and i'll take you word for it since it is alot of money for such things. if there is any write up of some sort, i'll probably take a tackle at these task myself if it isnt too complicated. Would rather have things done by myself since i'm a big DIY kinda guy. Thanks alot guys for all the info/ suggestion.
