Should i ask for lower price than edmunds TMV? on a 2010 Versa HB 1.8 S with power plus? I ask because it is almost 2011 and they must be trying to get rid of em. Thanks! -Justin

When I bought my 2010 at the end of July, I looked up prices for the same package at other dealerships in a 200-mile radius, and found some really low prices offered online by some other dealerships. I was able to use the lowest price I found online as a starting point for negotiation, I think it was lower than TMV.

2011 models won't be out til Autumn 2011.
If you want to pinch every penny hard, wait til then to buy new 2010.
Or at least wait til Jan when sales are slower.
Always be ready to walk away from a deal, there will always be another, especially new cars.
I bought a used 08. At the time, was cheapest V hatch 08 on www.trader.ca
and was discounted twice. But if I got there and it was trashed, I would've walked again.

My advice would be secure financing first from your bank/credit union. Figure out exactly what you want then email every dealership within range telling them what your after, dont give them your number or give into "stopping by"lol. Wait for some prices/deals to come back in. After that start bouncing prices of them see who gives the best price/deal. Take your time with it after all they want your money more than you could want that car lol!

At least that's basically what I did to start with. I didn't set foot into a dealership until I had some prices in print. I did walk on the deal the first time and came back in second time around a few weeks later and took the car home. I paid about $13,500 a year ago (out the door price) for a brand new 2009 1.8 S Manual, bare bones really but new for the price of used! Been very happy with it ever since.

2010 prices will be good also some early 2011 simply because the new body shape will be launched soon and it will date all the others.

The new body shape according to the sketches which you can find if you serch TIIDA/Versa pictures is a bit more sporty looking and apparently will be on show in Japan mid 2011 on sale late 2011 or early 2012 depending where you live. The article I read was not too clear on detail as it was just a few lines and covered a number of new versions of cars we will probably see in 2011

Ah.. you mean the 2nd generation redesign.

By "new body shape" I thought you meant some exterior late-cycle refresh.

Every new car I have bought since 1996 I have done so online. Edmunds is a great reference source, but that is all it is. Use the invoice pricing as a guide, and then go to at least a few of the online car buying sites, carpoint etc. Also check your nearby dealers and see if they have a web department as well. I would not even go near a dealer personally until I have all that in place. It is a great feeling to park at the dealership and walk past the hoards of hungry salesmen straight to the sales office with deal already in hand.
