Toyota just launched the new Prius hybrid. I heard that this thing can park by itself, anyone know anything about this?

LOL. I don't know about that but I did hear that you don't have to pay the parking meter if you're driving a hybrid.

Not sure if it parks itself, but I was just thinking about how frightening it would be to try to pull out on a busy highway in that thing.

Unless I'm misundertanding the specs, 80-something horsepower is pretty anemic when paired up with a curb weight of about 2900 lbs. Reminds me of my old Tempo. Old men driving Rascals would pass me on steep hills.

Hey, but it's got Mad Tyte JDM push button start.

As an automobile enthusiast, this vehicle makes deeply, profoundly sad. Of course, manual transmission is not an option...

Don't get me wrong, the technology is interesting, and it certainly has its uses.

Still, it just doesn't do it for me. Sacrifing a rewarding driving experience for fuel efficiency just depresses me. I'm sure many people will like this car, if only for the $2000 tax break.

Now, give me that technology AND some decent power...I'd be all over that thing in a second.

Edit: Hybrids, and maybe they'll never be, just don't seem to be quite "there" yet.

how would you dyno that? Not many 8 wheel dynos around here that I know of... :D

I really don't like the hybrid cars that are out right now, they definately aren't for me, but some people do and thats why they make/sell them.

Also, about the parking assist. I bet its just sensors that beep when you're close to the curb or another car.

As an auto enthusiast I love the idea! In a couple years I plan on replacing me current beater with a used hybrid. Honda currently has the Civic hybrid which looks just like a regular civic except it says hybrid on the back. Works for me. Costs $20K and gets 50+mpg. heck yeah!

Wow...eight wheels, plenty of power and electric! That's more like it. I want to be the first person to do an eight wheel burnout. ;)

I don't think the Prius is too underpowered, considering it's an economy car. My school got one that wat T-boned by a New Beetle. Auto body gets it first, and when its done, auto technology gets to play with it.

They straightened the frame already, but it has no roof or drivers side doors. That would give a pretty good weight savings, but not enough to make a huge difference. When I floor the potentiometer (drive by wire) that thing gets up and goes pretty quick. Electric motors are pretty damn torquey.

Hybrid cars are great for non-enthusiasts, so everyone without a passion for cars should drive one, more (cheaper) gas for us!

and the torque doesn't ramp up like with an internal combustion engine, it's stays almost constant at the start.
