you can get washers at any hardware store, and it is simple as pie...

remove hinge bolts, stack washers, replace hinge bolts...

Hello,

I'll say it: I copied SCC and painted my coupe flat black. However, I don't care for the look because no matter what, if you use the rattle can, it's going to look uneven. The new plan is to rent REAL auto paint equipment and spray the car with a pressurized gun. I figure four coats of flat black primer, four coats of flat black base and four coats of doped clear coat should make it look nice.

Has anyone else noticed how quickly small chips start to rust on primered cars? I have to completely re-sand before I do the paint again!!!

If you have any rust spots anywhere, you're gonna want to sand them down and fill in with some bondo. Any deep scratches you have, you will want to sand (180-220 grit) and fill in with bondo putty. What I did was just scruff up the clear coat with 220 grit, mask off everything I didnt want painted with a roll of craft paper from Office Depot and some auto-grade masking tape. The color I went with was Dupli-Color Hot Rod Black Primer. Duplicolor was the most expensive that Advance Auto carrried, so I figured it was a good bet. I think the whole car took about 10-15 cans. The hood is a pain in the buttox because its a horizontal surface and rattle cans dont like anything but vertical surfaces, so unless you remove the hood and paint it separatly, I have no idea how to make it look nice. Lemme know if you gots any more questions

SCC describes that you would have to spray in random patters so that it hides that it is uneven. They also applied many coats. I will dig up the issue and copy down the instructions.
