I have a 2011 M37x and need to replace the tires. At CostCo they have the $70 off set of 4 Michelin tires. I have two options, both are "Michelin Primacy MXM4" and both have 55K mile warranty:

1) Michelin 245/50R18100H. $182 each.
2) Michelin 245/50R1899V. $250 each.

Difference for four tires is $272. My wife drives this vehicle and it's a soccer mom-mobile. Sometimes we take it on family road trips. It's never tracked and limited aggressive driving is done (I have a modified 535i and Boxster S I used for that). The current tires on it are the V rated tires.

What are the compelling reasons to pay $272 more for the V-rated over the H-rated tires? Are there any? $250 per tire seems pretty steep for a soccer mom driven sedan that gets ~6,000 miles put on a year.

H rated tires have a top speed of 130 mph. V rated tires go to 149 mph. If you don't drive anywhere near those speeds, no need to pay extra for the V series.

Tire rack has excellent information that explains all aspects of tires. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/tiretech.jsp

I replaced my original V rated MXM4's with the H rated ones...noticed zero difference in performance on my 2011 M56, purchased new in 2010. Save the money !
