So i have a 240sx s13 and i need new speakers like a mother ****er. So i went down to my favorite car audio shop here in LA and this is what i was told:

4 Brand new Kenwood speakers1 1000w amp 4channel1 10" Sub+Labor and all the wiring

Price: $690.00 (I'v been a costumer here several times so he rounded down the price a good 30 bucks)

What do ya think?

As a dealer I can tell you that the prices you see on E-Bay are pretty close to dealer cost most of the time. Check the part numbers on ebay and see what they are selling for and that should give you a good idea.

You didn't provide part/model numbers so I can't tell you whether or not those are good prices. Hard to be accurate with the info provided but from the looks of it, it's a good deal.

For a normal retail customer I don't think I would try very hard to beat that price...I'd tell them to go ahead and take the other deal. Not worth my time quite often when someone's trying to shop for price only.

you can get 4 decent Kicker speakers off of ebay that are new for around a $100, a decent Kicker 10 for 80-100, and then a decent amp for like $200. Good wiring kits run around 60-80. So buy the parts and then search a forum to learn how to install the stuff yourself. youd be looking at spending under $500.

I'm going to recommend two pairs of DLS RS6s

DLS makes some of the cleanest speakers i've heard in a long time. And they're insanely inexpensive!

Targa is still in business? Also, the amp is not 1000W. You will get a better system for a little more money by going to a reputable local car audio shop.

How are you going to go and tell me that when it says 1000w right on the amp.

Also this is a reputational car audio shop. Very helpful and friendly people. Also friendly on the wallet.

Heh, I hope you're joking. Unfortunately, there are no laws in place that make car audio manufacturers tell the truth about their amps output measurement and how they arrived at that number. Flea market amps that say 1000W and cost $100 are probably 200W RMS @ 14.4V and 10% THD if that. Look for 12.5V RMS ratings for a more realistic power output rating and remember, the people that make the amp print the specs so they can print whatever they want and you'll never know the difference. A 1000W logo does not equal 1000W output.

I bet you a dollar you could get that amp to put out 1000w of power. Granted it may require an 18v power source, a 1khz signal and it will only play for .10 seconds at 30% THD, but I'm sure it could do it!

A reputable amp company will have "birth certificates" with their amps stating how much power it will actually produce with what voltage and at what THD. My old MTX 2300x was rated at 150W x 2 at 4ohms, 20-20k with <0.1%THD, but it actually put out 201W x 2.

Good companies will have under rated amps that cost more. Crappy companies will have over rated amps that cost less.

*edit* Remember this. Size matters when it comes to amps and subs. Large amps shells help disipate heat better which means longer life.
