Hello. I'm just trying to get an idea of a fair price for a 1997 Black on Black Q45 Base model with 92k miles. The car has had 2 owners and was originally a MA car. I checked the bluebook and everything, but it seems like most are priced higher in the California Market than what's listed as Private Seller pricing.

Clean Title/Carfax.

I've tried searching but haven't found too much regarding pricing on the Y33.

Thanks.

Try http://www.cars.com and http://www.autotrader.com for sample asking price.

The most important thing is what is the maintenance history?

The second most important thing is what does the prebuy inspection performed by an Infiniti Senior Technician say?

Personally, I prefer the later 1999-2001 FGY33 for their safety and convenience improvements.

I will need to find the maintenance records but being a Massachusetts car, should I be concerned with rust issues or damages through weather conditions?

Let's say the inspection was good...Is it common for people to pay a little extra for the blk/blk color scheme or for a particular scheme? I've been looking for quite some time and I don't know if it's worth it to purchase the vehicle for slightly higher now, or wait (however long it takes) for the "right" deal. If this car is 8k for instance, that would be too high for most? or average for some?

Thanks for the reply! Glad to be on NICO.

Put in on a lift and most will be revealed to you about corrosion. You will be able to determine immediately if it was exposed to salted roads.

Color and model are not as important in determining the best car as service history and year.

I would think ~$5K if verified pristine.

You will need about $2K in suspension and brake work, probably another $1200 for plugs and plenum, and $400 to change all fluids and filters. Tires? Transmission? AC? Foglights? CD player?

I'd save for a later 1999-2001 one as the rehabilitation costs will be the same for both cars in the same condition.

Rust will be an issue. I am driving a Chicago driven 98 Q that was garaged and I see rust in few places.

For 8k you can find a 99-01 in better condition. Here is 01 w/ 60k miles in Orange County for 9k.

Well thanks for the information. I'm going to look around and hopefully I'll be able to post a few pics up in the Y33 Owner's Thread sooner than later!

Cheers.

Here are my thoughts on buying a Y33. For reference, I own a 1997 with 240K, a 1999 with 165K, a 1997 junked with 180K and bought my parents a 1997 with 145K.

There is NO reason to buy a car with low (read 70K-90K) over a car with 150K. The reason being is that all the parts that can wear and ARE worn are gone by 90K. You might as well buy one with 150K and spend the price difference on shocks, brakes, suspension bits. With the cars I own-I would even being willing to buy the car that has 1997 360K that showed up on a craigslist ad here the other day.

Hrmm... I think that I will definitely factor that into looking for the Q of my choice. I still feel like the mileage is more so for components like engine, transmission, axle and such.

I'd like to say that lower mileage for a generalized sense is more for peace of mind from my stand point. If what your saying is credible than I'm even more excited to get my hands on such a long lasting classic like the Q45.

Thanks for the information, everyone's been a great help. I'm hoping to get a Y33 within the next few weeks. Thanks again!

Cheers.

My 97 with 240K runs PERFECT!! The 99 with 165K runs PERFECT!! By all means buy the lowest mileage car you can find but do not rule out a car that has a ton of miles. Find the nicest car you can but there will be very little difference in "feel" and longevity betwen a low mile and high mile car.

That 2000 might be a good deal, but at 113k if this guy didn't do anything to the car along the way than it could be a ticking time bomb. I'd ask to see when he did transmission and other fluid changes/flushes, frequency of oil changes etc.

The shocks/struts are also probaby shot now, but you can get new KYB SR Specials now for $500 bucks (someone posted that link) and get the car to handle way better.

Any way you go when you spend $6500-7500 on a used car with over 100k you should be prepared to drop another 2-3k in the first year or two. That said, my 97' has just rolled over 90k and I have had no problems whatsoever with the car. I bought it used with 40k on it in 2000 and save an issue with the gas door opening on its own no problems. If this was probably taken care of this is a very solid model to buy.

I've looked at both of those black 2000's. They are both in "ok" condition. Not worth the money in my opinion. I think it's worth going south to pick up a decent one at a decent price. I was going to spend 8k on a 1997 with 92k blk/blk but that's just too much, so I'm spending time getting the deal I think is fair. I'm not a fan of white so much. It would have to be super clean (low miles etc.) to even consider and a 99-01.

I've been to dublin, hayward, san jose, mtn view and every where else in the bay to look at these cars but most aren't legit. I'm waiting to hear back from a gentleman who is searching for one at the auctions for me. I'll wait for his word, until a deal comes up.
