Honestly, I'd never thought I'd be asking this question, but I'm working on acquiring a 240 for my brother. but I feel uneasy, and strength in numbers is great. Its a 1993, fastback SE. Its got all power options except power locks. Sun roof is in nice shape, doesnt leak, there is some clear coat flaking around it and on the rear bumper. The front bumper was repainted from premature yellowing, has never been hit, chassis is straight, a few knicks/scratches in the paint, no dents at all. Interior is in excellent shape, all power works. New Stuff: Cluch, throw out bearing, pressure plate, flywheel resurfacing, slave cylinder, rebuilt master cylinder, rear main seal, front main seal. A/C Blows VERY VERY cold.

Car was driven by a priest for 7 years and current owner has had it for 2, and performed the maintence on it for those 7 years the priest owned it. Always has been adult owned, 134k. Runs strong (even with a/c on), is in perfect time.

Asking is 3000. I can get him to 2900, however blue book is 2300. Is the 2900 fair?

Too much...I paid $3200 for mine with 55k, Injen intake, obx short-throw shifter, stainless steel braided clutch lines and an APEX'i N1 cat-back exhaust. Of course I bought it from another NICO member who was cool as S**T (CA18datsun510 or something like that). There's good deals out there so keep looking. I waited almost 2 years before I came across mine.

*Forgot to mention mine is a '90*

Bring the 2300 with you and tell him "2300, take it or leave it, that's all I have.."

Worked for me.

Yeah, unfortunatly someone will buy it for that much. Amazing... I bought mine for 1200, but that was before the motor bit the dust a week later. No wonder he sold it to me for so cheap... Its hard to find one unabused though, ya know?

I'll bring him 2500, tell him 2300 take or leave it. Worst comes to worst, he'll have to wait a little longer to get a car...times on his side.

I bought mine for $3000 straight, pretty much the same condition, 128k with a bit more equipment (HICAS model). I may have overpaid, but the car's paid for itself in the meantime...2 years and 20,000 miles without any required repairs or breakdowns. So the price range for yours is not what I'd consider excessive, but that's just me.

Lets hope it not starting isn't something big or you could loose every bit of that. At least you KNOW it doesn't run well. My sohc lasted about a week and a half before my 4th cyl pistin started kissing the sparkplug. Then I lost compression completely...Yeah...I so overpaid. Good luck on your purchase. You should get it for 850, seeing how you cant even test drive it, etc.

Hey Meantime, my brother lives in Melbourne, near Orlando, but I'm 7 hours away from home. Is there a chance that if there is a decent looking 240 on Autotrader.com in the 407 code that you could possibly take a looksy at it and give feedback? I would myself, but like I said its a ways away and hes not mechanically inclined to say the least...

Time's on your side too, your brother does not absolutely need a 240sx right now does he?

Nope, but I always keep my eyes open for him because hes got about 4500 bucks laying around. He had found an s14 for 3600, but someone ragged it into the ground.

On a totally unrelated note: I missed out on the greatest car buy ever. 1987 Mitsu Starion ESI-R (the turbo one), 71k orig. miles, gorgeous silver paint, very nice interior, $1500, didn't buy it. Couldn't get the cash together fast enough, and someone else snapped it up.....

Youd'a paid about 2-3 more thousand making that thing run correctly. They're a real pain. A buddy of mine had three that he parted out, but theres lotsa work to be done to make them more reliable.

In my area thats an OK price. next time you look at it put a dent in the fender, point it out to him and offer 2200, thats fair.

WHY in the world would you do that at carmax, of all places?! Sheesh. I'm gonna offer him 2500 cash in front of his face. Take it or leave it. Hopefully he looks at the KBB printout I did (and I was generous) and hopefully he'll take it. If not, then eff him

I told the guy that I wanted a final drive to be sure I wanted it, then I offered him 2400 again. He declined, then I whipped out the KBB printout and showed him that I was generous with a few of the options I picked and it was worth 2305, and then I whipped out 2500 in cash and said "Heres what kbb says, heres what I have on me, 2500 cash. As I see it, you take it or leave it."

He STILL insisted that someone was going to pay 2900-3000 for it, so I told him that when he doesn't sell it, go ahead and call me up. The guy is a prick. I highly doubt he bought it for that much.
