my friend with a 92 240sx fastback accidently hit a mail box and his passanger side rear 1/4 panel has a few holes in it, about the size of half a fist, they are towards the back. could someone please give me an estimate on how much it would to fix it? would it be cheaper to just get one from the junkyard and have it painted and put on, or just have a body shop fix it. any help is greatly appreciated. thnx in advance

I had an estimate from the area of 600-1300 dollars from all kinds of shops from dealers to little body shops. Its not a cheap fix no matter how you look at it cause those panels are welded on.

They would cut it off, try to match the cut from his car and weld the two together. Then use a die grinder or some kind of sander to match the level and repaint. Thats alot of time invested and the reason it's so expensive.

i konw the dealer wanted 170 for a s14 front fender and it only bolts on. i can imagine that the rear ones for any s-chassis would be expensive to replace.

Edit: specially with all that cutting welding and sanding. and then its still gonna be off a little.

its almost worth it to pay more for a reputible experienced body shop than to worry with the money aspect. unless you dont mind having a messed up quarter panel.

My sister just got hers fixed on her '89 fastback and it cost a little over $1000. This was at a reputable shop so it will probably be right aroung that price range.Josh

I asked my friend and he gave me an 800 dollar quote on that. Definitely not a cheap repair.

Quarter panels can be expensive to fix and not to mention that the paint has to be "blended" you cant just spray a panel and bolt it back on a car without blending the base coat and clear because it will look like shiot!

Go buy a fiberglass repair kit, and start learning how to use it.. you'll be surprised how well it can turno out if you do everything correctly... peopl fill in fist sized rust on trunk lids, it's no different for a rear quarter...

under 20 bucks... remeber to practice first then attempt your car... check out some sites with info on it... then fiberglass... fill with some filler, sand, prime, paint...
