I have a white Versa SL with gold interior sporting the CVT and Technology Package. The list price was $19,398.00 plus freight of $1,150 for a total of $20,548.00. I was given a discount of $574.00 (about 3%) because of my place of employment. I simply asked if Nissan had a corporate discount for ???? employees because we get great supplier discounts from GM, Ford, and Chrysler. Their response was NO but the dealership was offering discounts for those employees because they were aware of the Big 3 programs. I got a similar response from the Hyundai dealer when specing out the Sonata. Also my boss got a discount on an Acura for the same reason. Never hurts to ask!
I leased my Versa for 2 years so the monthly payments are still quite high at $490.95 including taxes with zero down payment. That is the ONLY way I will do a lease. Otherwise, it's virtually impossible to know whether you're getting a good deal or not. I believe the lease rate is currently sitting at about 2.9% for Nissans. No security deposit was required. Buyout after two years is $11,250.84
If memory serves, the monthly payments (all in including taxes) would have been about $330 on a 4 year lease. That is WAY below what we paid on a 2003 Toyota Corolla LE and the VERSA is a FAR superior vehicle IMHO.
At this point, I'm thinking I'll likely buy out this Versa but at least I have the opportunity to walk away in two years if it causes me a lot of grief. I like the CVT but they still need more years of service to determine long term reliability. The Murano has been encouraging and I'm hoping the Versa will prove likewise.
Personal Financial Note: Leasing ONLY makes sense for a "non business" individual if you INVEST the monthly payment savings over buying the vehicle. If you just take the savings and spend it on something else, it's a foolish endeavor. Interest rates also factor into the equation as sometimes the rate is significantly lower for buying than for leasing. IMHO leasing also doesn't make much sense if you drive a VERY LOW number of miles per year or a VERY HIGH number of miles. The sweet spot is right at the maximum normal allotment on the lease agreement which on Nissans in Canada is 24,000 km per year. Some manufacturers offer Low Kilometer leases (in the 15,000 km range) at reduced monthly payments but Nissan didn't have such a plan.
