Need opinions as I do not have a preference. Background: both cars are mechanically sound, interior and exterior are in very good shape. The 2000 is very slightly more worn.

2000 I30t- black ext. tan int. no spoiler.; 50,000 mi

2001 I30t- burgandy ext. tan int. w/spoiler; 47,000 mi,

2001 cost is $1,350 more.

Question: Is one year newer worth $1350?

From a warranty standpoint, you're not going to have $1350 worth of stuff going wrong in one year. From a resale standpoint, that black exterior is worth more than the burgundy- in fact, in the long run, this would make up for the extra year's difference- especially as there are only minor differences between the two model years. Define "slightly more worn"... My 2000 w/ 47K shows little, if any, signs of wear- and that's with my wife beating the hell out of it for the past year. The only signs of wear would be slight creasing (not cracks) on the driver's left side bolster.Major wearing issues aside, I would take the 2000 if only for the color. Either way- you can't go wrong with an I30- CONGRATS!

How much are the actual prices? The percentage of total cost difference from one car tp the other would be a good parameter for me ratehr than total $.

But usually one year newer is worth that much.

Fred's point is valid. What is the Infiniti dealer service history? Does either have factory warranty? What is the mechanical condition? Seems like a lot of the detail of the due diligence is either unstated or ignored.

$16.3 k for the black (no spoiler) and 17.6k for the burgandy.

They both sound like good deals to me. I'm kind of a sucker for a newer car though. And 1300 isn't really that much more. Colorwise, I really like the burgandy. There is an '00 or '01 around my housing edition in the burgandy and it looks very classy. Plus the '01 has got to be faster since it has a spoiler, right?

Due diligence is pretty much done. No reported wrecks or title flaws, both are off-lease within the last 2 months, no obvious front end work, both non-smoker, both have some original factory warranty remaining, both drive well, good tires (70%-80% tread), no fluid leaks, no trunk, door or windshield leaks. The black 2000 had computer reprogrammed. Both have been serviced and show some data on routine maintenance but both are a little spotty.

Trying to decide which one to take to the dealer for an "on the rack" and engine inspection.

The spoiler will obviously make it go faster. It's the down force on the rear non-drive wheels that make it so much sfer and improves handling :). I take that back, the weight of the spoiler probably balances the car F to R so that it handles better.

Inspect the fluids with the famous white paper towel test.

What is "spotty" about the service? Neglected fluid changes? If so, I would be tempted to take the newer one as the brake fluid may not be as abused. Any transmission fluid replacements in the history of either? Then look at that one. It's easy to triage. The extra year of warranty my help decide. Get quotes for each on extended warranty from the dealers in the area or anywhere else.__________________Brian1995 Q45 & Q45t & 2000 Q45

With that little of a difference I would go with the 2k1 unless you like the color combination of the 2k0 better.

Milage is essentiall teh same but with the newer car at same mialge its more likely hiway miles. Also you said the 2k0 looked like it had more wear?

That in itself would sway me to the 2k1 ( again unless the color combo on the 2k0 is more desirable to you they are <that> close)

2000 to 2002 has very small differences in the I30t. The I35t has a few more changes.

The spoiler was a dealer add for both years, unless you got the Sport package, which included the heated seats, rocker panel extensions, 6 disc CD Changer in the trunk, 7.5" wide wheels(rather than the 7"), and the spoiler.

Radio controls on the steering wheel were added along there somewhere, and the dash compatment was deleted.

A third headrest for the rear seat, and handles on the rear of the front seat were added.

An in-dash 6 disc changer was introduced, at some point.

The ambient temperature was moved to the mirror, and a compass was added.

The console changed at some point from black plastic, to a full wood grained top, and the shift know went from leather, to wood.

I may have some of the changes mixed up with the introduction of the I35.

Update:Checked out the birgandy 2001, I-30. Carfax:- No wrecks, Off lease, all other o.k.Body- No wrecks or major bumps that required repainting or a very very good job.Infiniti dealer- Maintained fluids, etc. Most oil changes in the 3.5k to 4K range. Needs front pads, recommend new brake fluid. Front pads need to be replaced (and turn rotors). A couple of side marker bulbs are out.

Singed today. getting brake pads, Infinti floor mats, cargo net, 2nd key and two remotes, a couple of carpet stains removed. We horse traded on this stuff as I "gave in" on the external detailing (it doesn't need it- at least from them).

Anyway, thanks to all, especially PalmerWMD for your help and advice.

I think you made the right choice! I didn't see this thread until now, but I think the 2000 was the first year of the new model run, so having a year to work out the bugs is always a good thing.

I'd highly advise going to http://www.nissantech-info/infiniti and buying the 1 day viewing subscription for $19.99. You can download the service manual and all of the TSBs as .pdf documents. You definately need a cable, DSL or other fast connection though. I did this earlier in the week and downloaded a lot of stuff - but I spent about 12 hours straight in front of the computer...

I was very impressed with the "little" problems that Nissan addresses, even as rolling changes throughout the model years. All the way down to updating the speed of the "seek" function on some of the radios.

In your situation with warranty remaining, having all of the TSBs will let you know what to ask for if there are updates available. Most of these start with "if the customer complains of xxxx" so they don't automatically do this stuff unless you ask.

Welcome to the club!

Heath
