I was just wondering what is a reasonable price to pay to have it installed and tuned? what's the most you would pay? One shop told me $500 plus more to be tuned, I thought that was a little high!!!...but i don't know theys things so maybe thats a fair price....thanks for any help you can give me!!

it only takes about 5 or less min to "install", tuning is something else

xs-engineering is the big daddy in power fc tuning in southern CA and they dyno tuning is 200$ for 1st hour and 150 for additional hours. They said usually it can be done in about 1 and half hour. MAP sensor or high horse power cars naturally takes longer.

the lesser known shop rate is about on an average of 100$ an hour

Be picky about who is tuning it.

Make sure they have experience with the PFC.. or else they'll be learning on it while you're paying them. Not cool.

You can also tune it yourself if you do the research and have the right equipment. Street tune it beforehand.. then take it to the dyno once you have the basic experience working with it so you can fine tune. Keep your ears out for detonation if you plan on learning with it. :P

I agree on the paying someone who knows about pfc part... which is why I am letting xs tuning it, after all, they are one of apexi's reseller

I disagree on the self tune if you have no experience with it. Why save that 200$ and risking 2000$ damage? I rather get it done right the first time.

When i had my car dynoed at this shop they were in the middle of becoming a reseller for APEXi . You guys might have herd of them, their the shop had that a kick *** 300zx (green with the stillen wing+body kit) it was in Importtunner or SupperStreet I think but now they have a R34 gtst Skyline (silver with the wing shaved off), it also made it in the mags. Anyway they told me they were putting a Power FC in their car and in a couple of others so i figured that would give them some practice...Oh yeah the shop is called adrenaline motorsports inc.( in St. Peters MO.)..but if they charge me $500+ for installing and tunning then i'll prolly find someone else to install it!!.. I mean my car isn't heavilly modifed...Koyo radiator,Greddy intake manifold and intercooler,Mickinney down pipe,Megan test pipe,Tanabe s.m.r.exhaust.

If you're afraid to do it, then you're right.. it's not for you.

I'm different. I build a car.. I want to tune it myself. That's the only way I learn... with input from others of course. I guess if you don't have a genuine interest in tuning then it's not the same.

that will depend on your perspective

genuine interested is one thing, however reality struck and the risk out weighs my interest in this application. I need to get to work/school/food on a daily basis, having no garage, no 2nd car limits my options.

I see you have a bike, or if you live with family/friends you can borrow their car. I don't have that option open.

It's not that freaking cheap, you forgot to add in the $150 hook up and inspecton fee. you pay that no matter what. If they don't like what they see they won't dyno the car and you pay the fee anyway. My friend had XS tune his FD (well it wasn't his anymore he sold it and the guy wanted XS to tune it lol). The Dyno bill came out to $1400 lol. Owned.

it's 150$ +45 for 1st hours then 150 after that for xs

when I said 200 I meant the amount of cost difference between a reputable shop and a lesser shop

.....................................OK so if it only takes five min. to install it then it shouldn't take more then a hour to tune!...I guess i should get ahold of APEXi and ask whats the avrg time to tune!!..I mean i just don't want to get ripped off for the install. The same shop also told me they could get me the Power FC and controller for $1200 but i know i can get it to my door for under $800, so i just wanted to make sure they weren't trying to pull a fast one on me for the install and tune!

the red top is easy to come by, I scouted ebay for the mid term blacktop for 2 months with no luck

expect to spend about 600$ ish for an power fc and 900$ for a new one + commander

the install is pretty much just plug and play like an intake except easier...

There isn't an average tuning time. It all depends on experience and modifications.

If you're running a stock swap, you might as well just use a base map.

I have one for my rb26 swap. I paid 500 used for it with the controler shipped. I'm looking for the boost contole kit for the power fc. Has anyone used it. Is it any good. The power fc shouldn't take you but 5 minutes to install. They are hard to tune by your self unless you find the right software to tune the ecu. But still I would recomend it be tuned by a shop on a dyno.
