I was at the dealer today to get a small problem fixed. While I was there, I also thought that since I just bought my 03 G35 on Friday night and only got one key and a fob, I would purchase a spare key for the wife to have. The dealer quoted me a price of $145! For a @*&# key!!! Does anyone know of a cheaper alternative?

Why you negoiate all used prices to include a full set of keys...........where is the other one with loan company or the future thief.

Probably not a whole lot of alternatives. The Key is expensive as it has a chip in it to help prevent theft. It is effective enough that insurance companies prove fraud in a lot of cases where no keys are stolen with the car and the recovered theft has no evidence of this system being bypassed. Newer cars (most from about 2000 and up) are very difficult to steal without a key as a result.

Good question...it sort of always pisses me off that people who trade in cars don't turn in all the keys with it. I traded a 97 5-series BMW and gave them 3 fob keys plus a valet key. I really didn't even think of negotiating the extra key at the time I was buying the car. I had already signed all of the papers when they handed over the ONE key. At least I got the keyless entry fob, too.

I got the same problem . I bought a car with only 1 key and a remote /keyless/. The price that Towbin Infiniti Las Vegas gave me was around $120 + $140 programing for just 1 key, the price for the remote was almost the same. I checked online and I found that there are remotes /keyless/ for $30 on e-bay /including the programing instructions/. Anybody know something about that?

There has GOT to be a cheaper alternative or an Infiniti dealer out there who'll sell these for a bit of a discounted price. Does anyone know if the car has to be present to program the chip or can that be done "off site" if they have your VIN? I saw on Ebay a G35 key advertised for $11.95. You would, of course, have to have the key programmed and cut. I wonder how much THAT would cost?

Here's the eBay link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...QrdZ1

Post a message on G35driver, I remember reading a little while back about how you can get the key programmed and cut cheaper than at the dealer. It's definitely possible. Don't let Infiniti fool you, they are not the only ones that use the type of chips that are in our keys.

Yes, I remember them saying something about finding a locksmith with the consult program.
