hey guys i am new to these g35's relatively. I"ve only owned mustangs for the most parts as my toy car. Recently I have come across a 2004 g35 coupe 6mt for sale. it has 11500 miles only an has the brembo brake package, 18 inch rims, moonroof bose , spoiler and black leather. What do you think is a fair price for this car? he is asking 23000? I thought this is a bit steep. any insight on a good price for this car would be great thanks.

23k for a 2004?!?!?? I bought my 08 g35x w/ 23k CPO for 28k... 23k for a 04, even with low miles, seems steep. What did it say on edmunds.com?

Welcome... Hmmmm, yeah, I'd say a bit high....I would say somewhere between $19,500 and $21,500 depending on condition and your location.... Excellent suggested retail on KBB is $22,500. Private party takes you back down below $20k.
I beat the dealer down below $23k on my 07 sedan (Nav, moon roof, 18 wheels) with 40k miles.
Cheers,
CB

Got my '03 with 20k miles last year for $17k. That $23k is high, maybe around $20k would be the absolute most I'd pay.

Yea that's exactly what I said. I tohught it was steep aswell. When I kbb the car came up to $20,350 dollars. And on kbb the brembo package isn't availiable so I was thinking if I could take him down to 21000 we would both be in fair game. What do you guys think about 21k? Don't get me wrong this car you could eat off of. It was taken very good care of

And svtcobra. I like the way you think lol. I priced the new gt out at 34000 with everything I wanted. Which is more than I can spend right now being I'm still in college.

Sorry, I went off topic last time and my comments got stuck it in it's on thread!! :ohno:

It would be very hard for me to pay much more than KBB private party and somebody said that was below $20k....this is a bunch of money for a car that doesn't have any warranty.
Does he have service records that can be confirmed thru a dealer??
Is this at a dealership or just an individual?
Clean carfax? Have you checked all body panels?
Crawled up under it? Looked for mods taken off? Bolts turned here and there??

Haha no problem... The owner of the car whoi has had it since new is a freind of my dads and they work together. My dad used to be a mechanic and checked out everything. The car was garaged when not being driven it also is complelty stock and has not been hit. It has all option but navi and have seen the same model and year with 40k miles sell for 18. So I'm torn lol

Well, that can certainly make a big difference!
Years ago I was helping a young co-worker buy a mustang. I located a cobra with less than 10K miles on her and she was mint!!!
When they came down to FULL RETAIL, I told him to walk.
BUT, he really wanted it and ended up buying it.
And, there wasn't another near by in that condition.
Bottom line is that he was happy with his new ride!

So, you know we will want pics of this beauty!!! :yesnod

yeah its always a plus when you know the person. But at the moment he is firm on $22,000. I feel like 21,000 would be fair. it kbb is even accurate that is...

$30k new in 2004? Not a 6MT with the Premium package and all options, which is close to what he's describing. MSRP easily pushed $38k, possibly you could cut a deal down to ~$35-36k but not $30k for a new 6MT Leather Coupe.

The car however today is worth at most ~$18-19k, only because of the low mileage (I'd expect closer to 50-60k miles by now). $17k would be a good price for private party sale. Depreciation rates would have put the car at about $24k after 24-36 months, when it was still under warranty (time and mileage based, major powertrain is done at this point after 6 years).

The low miles are a mixed blessing - in the next 30k miles of ownership, its next owner is looking at least:

1) Tires - Good luck spending less than $1000 here once you've got them mounted and a quality alignment done. Michie PS2's are not high mileage tires, as low as 15k and about 30k is typical.
2) Clutch - It's not unusual to see the crappy OEM clutch gone by 40k. Parts are not cheap, they do not resurface the dual mass flywheel, dealers will quote about $300 in clutch parts, $1000-1100 for a new flywheel. AM you can go JWT, etc. but still ~$800 in parts, $400 labor easily.
3) Brakes - most owners get not more than ~30-40k out of the Brembo OEM setup from Infiniti, dealer quote for 4 rotors and pads + labor > $2400 AM you can get good rotors and pads but they will still run close to a grand.

Add in rear diff fluid and trans fluid change, probable serp and AC belt replacement due to age alone, addressing any of the TSB issues like gas tank vent hose, rear axle click, TB cleaning, there's more than the $23k cost of entry to be considered even with the low mileage. Might be better off with a ~40k mile car with these already addressed. Don't get me wrong, I like my G a lot, bought it new, had it since Dec 2003, 62k miles now, drive it 4 seasons, do most of the work myself so cost hasn't been quite as bad as someone who pays for all the service. It's a great car and has been very reliable, just people need to come in eyes-wide-open on TCO for this car. Still a great driver's car :D

Too high again, by at least $5k or so. NAV option when new was a $2k item. I occasionally look at market prices for my own car which is very similar, with NAVI, figure this car may have been close to $37k MSRP at most, it would have been worth about $25k after 24-36 months, let alone 6 years.

Read my post about "low miles" being a mixed blessing; the repair and maintenance costs were very heavily stacked into the first 35k miles or so for my own car.

A reasonable price range would be $17-18k or so for a car with <60k miles. They're out there, in very good condition - suggest keep looking. Many of these were lease cars with 10k/year mileage caps on 38 month leases, and used as second or third cars here in the NE, people did not typically drop $2k for snow tires and wheels and drive them all year long. So, you may even find a fairly loaded car for that price range with 40k-50k miles on it.

Good luck!

That's a good price, esp considering depreciation ran something close to 0.68 after 24 months, which is pretty low. '07 Sedan had some major improvements, too. You did very well :bigthumb:

Records and not having been hit, etc, would be my minimum expectation. Any mods other than perhaps wheels/tires would have been a negative, too. But the exposure for the Coupe out of warranty is substantial, somewhat worse when the car does not have enough miles on it to have run into typical problems yet. I had easily $3k in warranty claim work done by my local dealer over the 6 years I've had my '04. Split half and half between the 4 year and 6 year coverages, too.

Thanks! I thought I did well considering this same car in the state of FL is going for $25k or slightly higher. It's never been hit and the paint is almost perfect! I don't think the passenger seat or back seats have ever been sat in...and I have 11 months of factory warranty left.
Cheers!

11,500 miles? 9,400 miles? Those are strangely low. Red flag.

Everybody has an opinion...and sometimes more than one on your question!
But, most if not all of us give our opinions based on our own personal financial situation/lifestyle/future wants/401K status/etc....
So, just wanted to remind you that we do not know your situation and basically it's none of our business.

OK, so my point of view is that I have one in college and one that graduates HS this year.
They both have cars. They both put down $1K and we matched. They both make their car payments.
00 Max SE w/65K miles for $11K .....now has 100K miles
05 Ford Focus with 50K miles for around $7K.....now has 68K miles.
I do most all of the maintenance on our cars.
I am showing them how to do oil changes and tire rotations.

My daughter would love to have a used Altima Coupe, but they are around $20K. But, she loves her car and understands.

So, a $20K car for a college student from my perspective is A LOT of car for a college student. But, again, my situation not yours.
So, if you are of means and really want the car, and they appear to be hard to find in that condition, then go for it!! :bigthumb:
