well i went to an auto paint shop yesterday and i got a quote on a color change. the type of paint job there calling it is called ultra 7000.

the paint is a blue metalic, full paint change including all door/hatch/engine bay surfaces, 5 total "jambs" the engine bay is pretty much empty "no drive line"

price on the color change is $1149.95 that does not include the jambs @$70 a jamb which comes to $350.00. total of that including there lil epa comes to $1509.95

that price does not include filling in any dents which i can do my self, and wrapping the wires/fuel lines with aluminum foil so paint doesnt get on it.

with this paint job it covers 5 year chip/scratch/peel and 3 year paint fade.

they offer a "glamour clear" for $200 more and a color/sand/buff job for $600 more to give it that "excellent show quaility"

now i prolly wont go with the "glamour clear and color/sand/buff job".

to me this sounds like a good deal, but i wanted to know if this sounds right to you all.

Is it a independent shop? I would first track down some of their previous customers to make sure they were satisfied with their paint job. Price doesent sound bad but you have to remeber for that price they have close to $300.00 for primer, paint, and clear which means it's the Cheapest paint they can find most of that is factory packaged with a choice of different Clears, It's just not going to look very glossy, and they will prolly only shoot one to two thin coats of clear to just get by with it. make sure they are primering the car and not just scuffing the existing paint and shooting the color, if they don't mention primer i would walk away and fast because the paint will start to flake in a year or two. do you have a garage? if so you could always buy a cheap $100.00 HVLP gun and try your hand at it! Base/Clear paint isn't that hard to apply ive painted close to 20 vehicles with Base/Clear and before that it was onlt single stage and the 2-stage paint is much easier! just gotta watch the clear and if it does run you just wet sand it out with 1000 to 1500 grit and buff it out with a 3M Polishing glaze. everyone has to start somewhere you might think about it, that way you can say you painted it.

well the paint shop is called "sprayglow" they do put out show quality paint on show/truck rides, they took me into the back where they have the painted working and showed me cars in each step of the process, and a few cars that where waiting to be picked up.

the paint i want is the factory paint code for R34's TV2 is the paint code.

the paint they would use on my car is Sherwin Williams paint, start off with a black base since the TV2 is a deep blue with a good amount of pearl, along with a small amount of metalic. they where pretty adament (SP?) about the amount of layers they would use 4 at most and depending on me how many clears i wanted.

they did mention primer, after the stock paint was sanded down.

they also expalined that if i wanted the color/sand/buff that i would need to have it done no later then 1 week from final paint. they also said that they would bake my car to get the shell of the paint to cure quicker, instead of leaving it outside.

the stock paint on my car now is that light grey color, not sure the paint code.

i do have a garage and im all for doing things my self when it comes to my cars/trucks but at this time i think it would be better to let someone else spray it.

thanx for the advice, what do you think?

$1500 not worth for an old nissan. just not worth it. sorry i love my 240 to death, but it too much..

for example spending that much on 350z is okay, but not for an old 240.

just drive the car. its intended to take you from point A to Point B Faster while drifting...

You think that is bad...before I traded my 240 off, I went to get an estimate on a repaint of the whole car, S13 hatch, and they told me $7k...no bull ****...$7k, and my car was a single color...cherry red pearl. This guy had done work for me once in the past with my Caprice, but after that day, I will never go back. He does only insurance claims, and now I know how he makes his money...dude is a thief...if you ever live near Galesburg Illinois, stay away from Daves Auto Body...

If you're going to repaint your car, do a full frame-off.

If you can drive your car to the paint shop, you haven't stripped it enough. Don't hand them ANYTHING that you don't want painted, I don't care how good they claim to be.

fyi thats a pretty reasonable price and sounds pretty good. a local shop charges around $3500 for painting a full car to give you an idea.

maaco sucks don't even think about it.

sounds like a good deal, good luck with it.

Id say go for it can't lose too much and to sanioll $1500 is not a lot to spend on a "old" nissan like 240 said it isn't his daily and he obviously wants a good paint job and being smart in asking if the price is good. so yeah 240 id go ahead and go for it

thank you, yea its not a Maaco type of paint job, but what i have learned is its not really the name that is bad it is the painters who work at that paticular name, which in turn give it a bad name.

you are correct, its not a daily driver, and i would like a decent paint job, one that will last awhile and considering i keep it locked in a garage its not exposed to the enviroment., but i was told by the paint shop that i would need to keep a full time running fan on it which will not be a problem because i do that already on my other non daily driver.

thanx for everyones advice so far
