Ok I was talking with my uncle last night and he has this on his car. I was wondering what yall thought. He cut the coil wire.Stripped the ends of the wires.Attached two wires (that can handle the volts)Ran the wires into the interior through firewallTo a toggle switchHe sautered the two wires on the switchWhen the swith is on the car will start because the wires are together. When the switch is off the car won't start because they are apart. You hide the switch and when you get out you hit it to turn it off and when you get it your hit it to turn it on.Just want to know what yall think

i have heard of something like that in the past... they do work well., and then save you having to buy an alarm which pretty much do the same thing with the start killer.. except it won't have a siren.. although most people ignore those. The trick is to be able to hide it well and still have it in a comfortable spot.. so you dont' have to be reaching down or what not...

wow that was quick. Um a lot of my family has it in their door handle. I know in really old cars they had a push toggle to turn on their brights. I was thinking of getting one of those and putting it in the floor board. And that would be just a kick of the foot. You just push and it works. Also about reliability. My uncle has had his for some time and its failed once. He burned the toggle. I would carry an extra in my glovebox. But if it does fail. You just disconnect the battery and twist them together and it will start. But my concern about doing that is the wires are exposed when your going home and thats a lot of volts. So my next question would be are volts going through the wire if the engine is running or only when the car is being started?

Someone makes a product like this. My friend used to own an Omni in which he stuck in a little key-like object (think Auto-Lock key) into an ignition-like hole (sorry, not good at describing things), basically a kill switch, worked real well and never broke.

Can you say fire starter if you do not use the correct size switch. Just a bit of caution to the typical youngster, please do not go to radio shack and buy the 99 cent toggle switch for this install.

you're disrupting the current this way. Best toggle switch to use is a wireless one that can be placed near the stock wirring. They can be activated with a remote. There's a company that sells them in germany, but the same company (can't recall the name atm) will not sell them in the states for some reason. Might have something to do with the radio frequency it operates on...

Yes you are disrupting the current flow and adding a little more resistance, which causes a load on your system but its so little if you use the correct wire and switch. As for a wireless switch, I never heard of such a thing. There are remote operators to open and close a switch that is wired in a system from a distance, is this what you are talking about maxpower? If you have any info on the item you are talking about please send it my way.

yup, the switch would be wired with max proximity to whatever it is you're trying to toggle on/off and controlled a remote...
i originally wanted to use one of these (hella part#6ZN 157 010-001)
but I gave up on searching for it, so i'm considering buying a simple ir hobby kit and wirring it to the clutch pedal toggle switch. for some reason I have a feeling i'm going to regret talking about this openly on an online forum

I think I would rather switch the fuel pump power supply, I wouldnt want that huge spark voltage near my dash, and like someone said that would effect your spark voltage

This is a good way to thwart would be 'novice' thieves. My friend has a 2000 Civic Si with this set up. It works until the thief pops the hood and connects the wire manually. My buddy avoided this through a trunk mounted battery kit. He routed the wires through the undercarriage of the car and made the switch connection there. Not many thieves seemed interested in crawling under the car in a parking lot just to see if there is something there. He also mounted the actual toggle switch in a very akward place, just inside and under the dash board. Sure you have to be a contortionist to reach it but his car has not been stolen.
This is a guy who has had his car stolen 3 times. Twice his civic, and once his sentra se-r. Hopefully none of us should have to deal with that kind of torture.

If you have a 240 w/o A/C (like me), you can put a fake A/C label on it and make that the switch. They'd never try it. They'd look all over the difficult places to reach out of sight, but they'd never think it'd be the A/C swtich.

you could do the same thing withe the ralay from the ignition, kind of like oush button starter only put a toggle to stop current flow. or you could just put a siren on it with a pager thing and carry a nine.

Kill switches are just one important step in securing car. There will be a kill switch going into my car at the same time that the battery goes into the trunk, as part of the FMIC install. At the shop that I take my car to, just about all the cars in there have kill switches, and I figure if people with Lamborghini's are Ferrari's are counting on them (along with Lo-Jack and standard alarms) to secure the car, a kill switch should be good enough for the 240.
