Not my car...just found this vid while searching on Streetfire.....its neat to actually see a CA18 car drifting for a change.....most vids on the web are dyno vids only.

But how many people have that much power??? I'm putting up a respectable 280hp out of mine but I still don't get as much smoke when i drive my buddies rb25 s13... I'm just over the lack of smoke these engines put out. Don't get me wrong I love it to death but I might be selling mine soon.

Do you have the 4.36 OEM silvia rear end?

Had a 4.11 in the s12 the ca18det was in. I ended putting that car into the wall @ redbull Drifting in Long Beach. So Now it's sitting in a s13 with v-mount thats getting finished up right now. But this time I'll be using the stock ca18det transmission in the s13 instead of the stock ca18et transmission i was using in the s12. I'm also gonna see how the stock 3.8 diff will work out when i'm done. And hopefully the higher wheel speeds from the longer gearing will get me more smoke too. But if I get too fustrated I may just go to the dark side and add 2 more cylinders.

If you want to see what I mean about the lack of smoke here is the vid of the last drift my s12 ever did... I was full throttle entering @ about 80ish. And the reason I hit the wall was due to the engine stalling when i was next to the wall. Also having no power steering didn't help when trying to straighten out when I hit the wall.

And this is the first time I ever drove a rb25 powered s13...

I wouldnt go with 3.8 gearing unless you were high HP KA-T and you wanted to use first gear from a stoplight. If you want more tire smoke you will need more torque...and the 4.3 gearing the CA18DET came with in S13 silvias delivers more torque in lower gears than the 4.09 or 3.96 (USDM S-chassis or J30 respectively). Trust me...the lower the gearing...the more it's just a highway cruiser...not a drifter.

I'm no drifter, but doesn't the amount of smoke have something to do with the tire compound as well?

or maybe even the surface ?some ZR1 corvettes barely tire smoke.... others engulf the car in smoke. Same car

higher tire rpms may generate more smoke ?Ever notice how when drag racing, they'll shift quickly at the start of a burnout.

I don't think the uk CA18 cars came with a 4.3.Many upgrade to the SR20 S13 3.9 lsd diff iirc
