I have my plenum off and I was wondering if any damage could be done to it by pressure washing? Has anyone tried this?

My dad will not get off my back about this one. He wants to take it to the car wash so bad. I have been reluctant to let him, partly cause I disagreed with him the first time and now pride has kicked in and I am standing my ground. But after scrubbing it for a couple of hours, pressure washing doesn't sound too bad.

It is not the inside I am worried about, I have a method for that. I want the outside to shine. It HAS to be clean. I don't know if it is some sort of obessive compulsive thing, but it bugs the hell out of me when I have to settle for less. Pressure washing could potentially save me hours upon hours of tedious q-tip scrubbing.

So as well as the pressure washing thing, does anyone have any tips to getting a plenum to sparkle?

You're talking about the outside of the plenum only, right? I just had visions at first of spraying into intake runners :D

I've had some success cleaning the plenum with an abrasive cleaner like Comet. Never tried pressure washing, but without a good solvent, I don't think it would do much - most of what's on there is probably greasy. I can't imagine it would hurt anything to try it - just be sure to get all of the water out before reinstalling it!

Actually, you're wasting your time pressure washing it.

Comet and a bathroom scrub brush, then a good dousing with spray brake parts cleaner should brighten it right up (inside too).

Thanks AZ and Q451990.

I wasn't too keen on the whole thing myself. I am going to try the Comet right now. I had a can of it staring me in the face all along and didn't even think to use it. Thanks.. Ben

Dude.. if your plenum was as caked as mine, use paint and varnish remover... No paint on the plenum to take off, so go crazy inside... It leaves everything spotless, but does leave a little residue that a little carb cleaner on a rag will get rid of.....

Pressure Washing is worthless even on the outside of the car if you dont use soap/solvent

Also, for the outside.... Dont get it spotless before you put it on, cuz just like mine it WILL Get dirty by greasy hands.... No doubt..... Get it MOSTLY clean and then you can follow it up when its all buttoned up with some windex or something to get the small stuff....

Fortunately, i didnt have to worry about this since my engine bay was IMMACULATE to begin with!

I'm not sure what your talking about wes^

I am saying that on the outside of the car I find that when I use a commercial pressure washer on a .5 * 5 pattern some dirt doesnt come off.

I was talking about the outside of the PLENUM... LOL!!!

I wouldnt use a pressure washer on my car, except for wheels, tires, underbody, and the wheel wells... Other than that its a wash mit and some good wash for me, until I get the 5 star stuff, then I will only need my hose!!! :D
