So the other day after charging a dry system w/ R-134 (I'm assuming it was dry, because when I put on the R-134 conversion on the low side, I barely got a 'pfft') I was driving around in some fierce heat (90+, its a black car), when a turrible (read in your head as though Cleveland Brown was saying it for added effect) amount of steam came out from under the hood; I looked and saw that everything was flowing from the pressure relief valve.

Are these a one-time-use kind of thing; do I need one that will handle higher pressure (I'm cautious to do this because I'm not sure what the OEM piping can handle), should I just get a few more cans of R-134 and recharge, to a lower pressure? I used one of the DIY kits, and filled it to the higher end of the "green" pressure zone.

Thanks for any input guys.

Out of the pressure relief on the compressor? I don't think they're a one time deal, but I have had them pop when filling a car 'cause they where old. Get a new one from your favorite auto parts store.

If you have access to a vacuum pump hook it up and let it run for a half hour or so, then fill it back up. If not, I guess take it somewhere to be vacuumed.

Yes, out of the pressure relief on the compressor. Why does it have to be vacuumed? I'm assuming all the pressure left the system; when I turn it on there's nothing but hot air.

Thanks for the response!

Put a vacuum on it to get all the air/water out of the A/C system. It's designed to work with refrigerant, not refregerant with air and moisture mixed with it.
