Hi,

03 Pathfinder 76k miles

Today when I pulled out a parking lot, CEL on, then I press the gas pedal, car not moving or only like 7mile/h on the meter, and RPM stays at 700 like in idle. I parked car at side and turn on and turn off and press pedal wanted reset light, didnt work. but then I could get car moving like normal and drove back.

Couple weeks ago the CEL was on and been told thorttle body needed be replaced(code was P1121) but I didnt see any RPM problem, so I reset CEL and car runs great for almost 2 weeks till tonight.

Is the throttle body really dead now? or could I try clean it first? I am afraid it happens again when I on highway.

my wallet!!!

Thanks for any help,

your year pathy has drive by wire, meaning theres no cable that goes from your gas petal to the throttle body, its all done electronically. so u cud have a problem in multiple places, prob suttin i wudnt wanna tackle, lots a electronics in that area.

My throttle position sensor went bad at 112,000 miles. It was weird to drive. It was either no throttle or about half. To drive anywhere I was constantly accelerating and coasting.

I hate to say it but it looks as though the electronic throttle control actuator is dead. This is the motor that physically moves the throttle valve. A quick check to see if it is indeed the actuator, you can remove the intake tube right at the throttle body and and turn the vehicle to ON (without starting vehicle). The throttle valve should open and close once when you turn the vehicle to ON. If the throttle valve does not move, then it is likely dead. You can also try moving the throttle valve with your hands (when vehicle is off) and see if you can un-stick the valve. Perhaps it just needs a little push. When you move it with your hand it should return back to the closed position. Then you can start the vehicle and try revving the engine again and see if it moves at all. If not, then you will probably need to replace the entire throttle body assembly since it is one whole piece (throttle position sensor, actuator, etc.).

Thanks for the responses.

I just took off the hose, and turned to on and put a jack on gas pedal, didnt see the the valve move. (couldnt move the hose completely to get a clear view, there are other hoses/pipes around). The wall before the valve is cleaner than I thought, put a finger to scratch the wall, nothing on my finger.

Then I put the hose back and drove around for couple miles, everything is normal, RPM is normal except the CEL still on. Just lots water comes out of tailpipe,no smoke, guess that's normal too?.

Sorry, I thought it happened when you turned the vehicle ON (which, now that I think about it, makes no sense to cycle at startup), but that's still good news. That's great then, that means your throttle control actuator is functioning properly. Was the issue happening intermittently?

Also, water from the tailpipe is completely normal.

that issue(originally the press pedal no rpm) havent happened again so far. but the CEL is still on, tried to reset by using the pedal pressing, no luck so far.

Just because the issue makes me think of couple weeks ago the shop told me the electronic throttle control actuator needs to be replaced thing, kind nerves, big bucks for that.

You could try clearing the code by disconnecting the battery and pressing the brakes to drain the ECU memory or just leave it overnight. If the SES light comes on again for the same issue then you may still need to troubleshoot the issue or replace the throttle body. This may be a temporary fix or a permanent fix, you never really know.

Thanks for the advice.

I dont have wrench around to disconnect the battery. guess I'll try reset the SES light using the press-pedal way again or leaves it on see what happens.
