So ... what do we do with this experiment of liberty if no one, educated enough to do the job, desires to serve? Are we just stuck dealing with the same old moon bats that are willing to sit in their own guano? Ive heard the argument for mandatory political service, similar to jury duty, where you are called upon to serve an office, and under pain of conviction, fines and or jail time, you serve. Thats not my plan, Ive yet to see a good reason for that, but its one of the many idears floatin round out thar.

It's not that the people doing the job aren't qualified. It's that they aren't, by any means, the most qualified. We have the electoral process to make sure that they are at least marginally qualified, by making it competitive.

But the most qualified people stay away because they can probably bring home a whole lot more cash in the private sector, without any of the hassle that's brought down upon them and their family by the great burning eye of public scrutiny.
