prepping aero mirrors for paint - sanding grits/techniques/procedures???

Hey guys, I got a pair of red aero mirrors that I want to get painted black. I'm planning on bringing it to 1 day paint & body or maaco and just have them paint it gloss black.

However, the major problem I've heard about those guys is in their prepping, so I figured if I sanded it down myself, then I should be set.

Ok, so basically, what grits should I be using? dry sanding or wet sanding? how much sanding? etc, basically a sort of walk-through.

200-500 wet or dry sand should do it. just rough it up so the paint sticks

I'll try to rough it up evenly as possible. Once they paint it, there shouldn't be anything like swirl marks or anything right? I'm not much of a body work person, so I apologize for the ridiculous questions .

How did those mirrors turn out, b/c I just bought a used pair that I want to paint the same color as my car

I ended up bringing it to a professional shop to get it painted... decided I didn't trust myself, hehe.

***EDIT: the shop I took it to prepped it for me - was 3m collision or something in OC. - Job wasn't too shabby.

Cost me about 80 to get it painted - it's just glossy standard black.

Should be cheaper if you go to 1 day paint and such.
