I have been looking around for awhile and studying up on what turbos to go with stuff like that for a while now. I have the turbo i want to go with and i plan on running mostly stock, but i am going to get my head rebuilt and get a vavle job and port polish. I was wondering what if i should do anything to the bottom end. I heard that they are capable of holding up to 400 hp. Is that true? Also i would like to run at least 10- 12 lbs of boost, was wondering what i should do to the motor to accomplish that goal.

Any other advise would be great.

if you just want to run 10-12 psi, it should be ok on stock bottomend, the engine can stand ~350 safetly, 400 is max.

PS. get a good tune for however much hp you want, as detonation will kill any engine.

are you talking stock rebuild on the head, or a multi-angle valve job, stiffer springs, etc?

If you're talking about special work on the head, give us some specs... I'm interested

If I shoot for around 300 whp would i need to get new cams? For the specs Im not all sure, Im sort of new to some of this stuff, but i was talking to a freind and he said that a valve job instead of port polish you will be better off. So i was thinking maybe a 2 angle vavle job, like i said I'm sort of new to this stuff so try to bare with me a little. As soon as i get all the specs i will post them for you all.

ivan made just over 400 hp on a stock never opened up engine... no new cams, no port polish, no nothing... just a good fuel and turbo setup...

the key to power is fuel management... if you have a good fuel setup you''ll make 300 hp easy on the stock engine and everything will just be a bolt on... you won't have to do anything to the head, block or anything. learn more about fuel magement- the different options (for example piggyback, stock ecu rom tuning, daughterboard ecu upgrades, stand alone systems, fmu's, and many others), and what they cost, what they are good for, what one is right for you, etc... just search the forums there is tons of info about all of this. good luck.

SAFC's are common for piggyback systems. You can do that or a JWT ECU also. JWT is pretty expensive for what you get though, I know Enthalpy (Scott Avoy) does Rom tunes on ECU's and has great turn-around time! He's done wonders with SR ecus, and he's doing good with KA ecu's from what I hear also. That might be a route you would want to go.

i would at least get some better pistons while it's all opened up...because once you drive around on that 10-12PSI you're gonna WANT to turn it up a little...or alot. and if you've got the money get some forged rods in there. then you'll be golden for 400+ HP.

it's all just a big money game.

Thanks for all the help you guys. I have sort of changed my plans. I am going to find a different ka and I think the internal work will be easier if i do it that way since this is my first time doing this. You all have really pushed me in the right direction. Now its only a matter of time and money before its done. I beleive it should be done around the middle of august. The reason it is taking so long is for one the moeny, but i have a job up in New Hampshire remodeling a 1800 century house getting about 13$ an hour. Thanks again for all the help!
