I'm about to embark on a trip from WNC to South Florida. Our Pathy runs great now, but I wanted to get a 2nd (ASE certified) opinion. they looked it over and came back saying that the trailing arms were bad, that the AC, Power Steering, and Alternator belts needed to be replaced, as well as a SES code (their scanner didnt say what was bad just the number), the only other thing was that the oil should be changed before we leave. oh also valve cover gaskets are leaking..

Is there a section in FSM that details the procedure to change these belts?
are the power steering and alternator turned by the same belt? im looking at parts and its showing the same belt for both..

Page MA-13 of the factory service manual shows belt routing diagrams and which bolts to loosen and tighten to remove the belts.

What was the SES code?

Did you examine the trailing arm bushings yourself for damage?

Tighten the valve cover screws, sometimes they just back out somewhat and weep.

Did you have the timing belt replaced at around 210k miles?

I haven't changed it. But I've only had it since about 247000. I didn't look at the bushings myself but guy said they were gone. P1491 was the code

P1491 could be caused by carbon clogging the hoses around the evap canister (rear driver's side, under the vehicle) so check those first.

Bad or missing trailing arm bushings can cause excessive sway at higher speeds (60mph+), do you experience this?

The timing belt and spark plugs have a 105k mile service interval. If service records came with your Pathfinder, I'd examine them to make sure they were done.

I don't experience any sway. There are no service records.
