I'm considering building '98 240sx into an SCCA Improved Touring S (ITS) class racecar. I'm confident I can get the car to handle well, but I'm a little concerned about the KA24DE motor. ITS rules allow the following modifications to the engine:

- Blueprinting of the motor to factory specs (grey area...)- .040 over Pistons- +.5 compression ratio ever stock (so 9.5)- A/C removal- Fan removal (replaced with electric)- Emissions equipment removed- Port matching- Exhaust completely open (Head, no cats, race muffler)- Intake tube and filter can be replaced- ECU can be modified

Considering the mods above, what would be a conservative estimate for HP at the FLY WHEEL? To be competitive it would have to be near 200... I like this car because it is light for the class, has a large aftermarket, and is relatively new. Plus, we’ve always raced Nissans, and I want to keep it that way!

Does the car need to retain the factory intake manifold and throttle body? What about injector size? Even without, you should be able to get 200 flywheel, considering you have ecu modification option. Does this mean you can run a full standalone efi system?

The factory compression ratio is 9.5:1 so you can bring it to 10:1. Do the rules require standard cast oem style pistons? I assume they do but you never know.

You have a lot of room to work within those guidelines.

deviousKA,

Does the car need to retain the factory intake manifold and throttle body? What about injector size?If its not listed above, it cant be modified.

Does this mean you can run a full standalone efi system? ECU can me modified, but must fit in "original OEM ECU housing".

Do the rules require standard cast oem style pistons? Cast or Forged pistons can be used, must have same dome/dish/valve.

Anyone else have an opinion? Is 200 realistic?

How much are you willing to spend is the question, yes you can easily obtain 200 flywheel with the options available. I would suggest a individual throttle body system and standalone efi (fitted in oem case). Its not cheap unless you want to spend the time to do it yourself, then it can be done for less than $600.

I dont understand this post.. you are contradictiing yourself here.. itbs and standalones ... are more than 600 bucks.. and that doesnt include any other bolt ons.. if you can get 200 flywheel hp for 600 bucks.. sign me up. Im not trying to be sarcastic I just am probably going about my setup the wrong way. Help me out man.

ive been trying to figure a way to do this for a while. of course i have a while till i can fund the project anyway. I have been reading the rule books and for some reason i understood that you could use any motor that came in a certain vehicle model. such as sr in s13. Its going to be tuff to get enough power from a ka24de to be competitive. anyway, good luck keep us informed of the progress.
