prep engine for paint?

before i put the sr in i plan to clean everything up and paint. how do i prep the block for paint? is a really good cleaning good enuf or is a sand necessary? do i need to prime or just paint

just clean it

engine degreaser and whatever other chemicals used to clean aluminum.

its aluminum so it should clean up to a clean metallic finish.just put some back bone in to cleaning it.

I would go and get some acetone from hardware store and give it a good cleaning. Acetone will not leave any residue and cleans very good. A good primer then paint it.

+1. Once you get it to the nice and clean state, it'll be a lot easier keeping it that way. If you paint it, yea it'll look good for a while, but the paint may start to chip off making it look worse and even more time consuming to re-paint.

i dunno how its gonna look with everything else painted tho, i'll see how nice it cleans up and decide then

get a couple of pieces of scrap metal, and paint them untill you find the right combonation that fits what you like.
