Have you all found this as a requirement for the FX's?Am still tossing around the purchase of one.

How well do you think this style will hold it's Infiniti value?

I had FX35 for a year now and use regular gas. Tried premium and did not notice a difference. Premium is not required for 35 but is required for 45, they only recommend it for FX35

Why do they recommend premium? That's all I've been using so I don't have anything to compare it against.

The FX will adjust to whatever fuel grade you choose. If you use a mid or lower grade the FX will run fine, but performance will suffer. The computer & sensors will protect the engine at the expense of maximum performance. If you are simply going to keep up with traffic & use your FX35 in the "Commuter Mode" mid grade fuel will be fine. If you intend to make regular use of your FX35's High Performance side use 92 octane or higher fuel & enjoy.

Higher octane is always better if you can afford it. The engine as knock sensors to prevent knock but using a higher octane can help.

I have owned an FX for six months and have never put premium fuel in it.It runs fine without it and I have had no trouble.

As i stated previously the FX35 will run "Fine" on whatever grade fuel you put in it, the Fuel Management software in the ECU will retard timing to eliminate engine knock & damage. If you ever want to experience the full performance potential of your FX35, it'll require 92 octane or more.

Taiwan (and most places outside of the USA) state the RON octane rating, whereas in the USA we use the (RON+MON)/2 method for getting octane.

98 octane RON is generally considered to be ~94octane using the USA method.

No problem. It really seems to be an issue with all the other SR20 guys who insist that the motor is meant to run on the "98 octane" gas over in japan, etc., when it really isn't much different than the gas we get over here.

That said, I would just use the octane gas that the manufacturer suggests. Regardless of how much I know about cars, the manufacturer has engineers working on designing an engine to work a specific way...who am I to question them :)

My 2003 FX45 which was purchased in NY, continues to be right on the verge of pinging using the 91 octane gas that's available in California. I need to use Chevron with an additional bottle of Techron to avoid pinging.

I don't know if this is still the case still with Infiniti, but some years ago when I bought my vehicle nearly new, the manual recommended Premium and the service manager at two different dealers told me to use premium. If I didn't and damaged a sensor, clogged/damaged injectors or anything else that has to anything with fuel compression during the warranty period my claim would be denied because I didn't follow the manual.

Cali/arizona gas is pretty low quality compared with most other places in the USA to begin with

And then gas stations are allowed ot mathemaitcally round making things worse. So the 91 might be 90.7..When in woutheast you can get 93 and sometimes your lucky and actually get true 93 ( often not tho)

Fred..
