My past two vechicles have been a 1997 BMW 528i automatic transmission and for the past year have been driving a 2006 BMW 530i auto trans with sports suspension/nav/premium option package, etc. I have been very pleased with both BMW's, but in the past have previously owned two Infinity (2001 Q45 was the first one) and loved them as well.I am now considering selling the BMW 530i and purchasing a loaded G35 manual transmisison, sport suspension package, sport seating, etc.My only concern is that I read somewhere on the internet that premature clutch failures were pretty common on the 6 speed manual G35. First, I would like to know if this is true and secondly, if it is dependent on the way the vehicle is driven. If I am looking at replacing clutches at 25,000 to 30,000 miles, I will probably purchase a G35/G37 with an automatic transmission. By the way, at 62 years of age, I drive a car a lot differently than I did when I was 26, if you know what I mean. This car would be a daily driver.

Thanks for any answers you might have on the subject.

Well, as far as the premature clutch issues, Its not that common really, its more driver abuse and poor driving. I've seen plenty of G's get to 40 and 50 k miles on original clutches. And if you're implying you drive like an old man, well then you shouldn't have any trouble. Especially with a newer G.

P.S. Where do you guys get the letter "Y" to change your car brand? I'd love to make my neighbors car an "AUDIT". or turn the W upside down and get an O to make a BMW into a MOM.

The G37 6MT is much better than the G35 6MT...I'd recommend a G37 if you want a good, long-lasting clutch. The G35 clutch isn't bad, but the transmission can have problems. At 30k, my transmission was replaced due to a faulty 1-2 syncro. I ended up using an aftermarket clutch (even though my OEM clutch wasn't worn too bad). Now I just have to deal with the noise.

**The older transmission will chatter without a dual-mass flywheel.
