As some of you may already know, I rebuilt the CA in my g/f's sentra in the front of my apartment's drive way with the block in the car. I mean it got a new crank, a new oil pump, new main and rod bearings, Cp pistons, re-shotpeened rods, Nismo 1.2mm headgasket, ARP head studs, custom reground cams which bring specs to the equivalence of 270 duration and a 9.3mm lift in a head that was ported and blah-blah.
I decided to use the Head with all the work done to it because it makes since over the stock one, in which I know worked very well. So yesterday I'm finishing up, eager to start the car to see if I had indeed done what I thought I do best and that's work with the CA18 with mad experience. I crank the car and it runs, but there's no fire to the #1 and 4 cylinders. I spent and hour troubleshooting that until I gave-up and took a module from one of my other SDS standalone systems I have on standby. "Bingo" the car now has fire on 1 and 4, but the damn thing is still missing. It ran horribly and it told me that either it was leaking compression (Which I seriously doubt), taking on water (Which I seriously doubt) or it bent a valve or some valves (which I knew could not be the case).
I did a compression and the #1 cylinder was dead as road kill, so now I'm like . I did #2 and got a healthy 170psi. I did #3 and got a healthy 170psi. I did #4 and got 150 over the course of some cranks, so now I'm definitely assuming that this thing has some bent valves. It was then 1230am that I decided to disassemble the car (again) and troubleshoot. I'm tired because I had just did the same thing Thursday night into Friday morning going to sleep around 0530 am.
At 0125, the head was completely off and now I'm inspecting the pistons and cylinders to make sure everything was cool. I got to inspect the head and my immediate eyes that early in the morning could not detect a bent valve by looking at it's seat, but inside the #1 exhaust port there was oil and that indicates a bent shaft which destoyed the brand new oil seal. At 0250, I have completed the change-over of the intake manifold from the bad head to the stock CA head. I'm very skeptical about using those high lift cams on the stock head, but I kinda forgot that I do have a CA.
At 0415, the new/old stock head with the big cams are installed and all the necessary pipework had been put back into place. At 0445, I cranked it and surprisingly enough, it stumbled a bit, but taken into consideration that I do have the big cams, I expected it. I can happily say that the car runs hard. I had to use my 60-1 turbo with the .63 rear housing and .60 front housing because my other turbo is getting a rebuild. At 15psi, this puppy is nasty! At 20psi, the stock tires can't stay on the ground and the turbo sounds so sweet. At 25psi on 93 octane and timing smartly retarded, what a ride. . Track day is tomorrow and I still haven't found rims for my slicks nor do I have the drag suspension installed. That fight has me a bit bummed-out, but I enjoyed the thrill of racing against the clock.
