Sweet part, but question:

What good does the -8 AN port do when it's BELOW the oil level?

I'd have one, but my underbody bracing affects oil pan clearance.

This product will also increas the capacity of the oil at which time the port is affective for oil lines, etc.

What I'm saying is, for a drain port (a return line for a turbo / supercharger) to be effective, it must enter the pan *just* above the oil level.

This one has a port *below* the oil level, which means oil will back up in the port and there'll be no circulation...

Or am I missing something?

You are correct. However, this was made so that customers don't have to tap their aluminum block/upper oil pan. PowerLab has tested this product repetitively and shown that there is no back up into the oil drain line, which would cause a smoking problem. Hope this helps.
