I've finally decided that I want to start upgrading my stock stereo system and had a question regarding how to power the speakers and sub. I admit that I am a complete noob when it comes to car audio so I was hoping to get some input from the pro's here. I purchased the Pioneer AVH-P3200BT from Amazon and it should be arriving shortly.

So that head unit has a MOSFET 50Wx4 amplifier in it. I don't plan on changing out the rear speakers right now as I am usually the only one in my car and I have the fade set all the way to the front and nothing going to the rear. So would the power from that head unit be enough to power some decent front speakers and sound good? And then get a mono amp for the sub or possibly 2 channel for the sub and rear speakers? What would be the best route?

I haven't made any decisions on an amp, speakers or sub. Although I was thinking of a single shallow mount 10" sub. I don't want ridiculous bass being heard from a mile away, just some good bass that will hit hard and clean. :)

Thanks for any input. :dblthumb: I keep reading through the FAQ and googling trying to learn about this stuff but it can be quite overwhelming when you're completely new to it.

What I went with was Infinity Reference front components and kicker midbass speakers in the rear doors. They are running off amps though. I took out the speakers in the rear deck to allow the sub to vent the bass through the rear deck.

Worked out good for me.

Un-amped signal from aftermarket head unit to doors and deck will sound better than stock, but amped signal from aftermarket head unit will sound better still. If I were you I'd buy a 2 channel for the door speakers and leave the rear deck un-amped if you arent using them or replacing them with aftermarket, then run a mono to the sub.

Just my $0.02...

Most people confuse using an amplifier in making a system "loud". This is not exactly accurate. Great sound quality actually comes from having the proper amount of power. Mid bass and deep rich vocals and cause by the speakers when they have plenty of power. Scratchiness comes from not having enough power I.E. the factory or even after market deck. My advice you want good SQ and only want to run one sub... Look into a 5-Channel amp such as the Alpine PDX-5.. =D
