The power window on the drivers side moves very slowly when it is raised. It starts off slowly, almost stops halfway up and then seems to gather enough energy to move somewhat faster for the last part of the travel.

Do this sound like the motor or more likely to be the regulator?

I can't find a good description of removing the regulator in the FSM so I don't want to just dive in there without knowing what I am doing.

Has anyone had the same problem and do you have any advice?

Your regulator is probably ready for replacement but you may get away with just taking it out, cleaning it, lubing it and reinstalling. The only way to diagnose is to remove the regulator. After the door panel is removed you'll have to remove 7 ea 10mm bolts for the regulator assembly (yellow tees) and 2 ea 10mm bolts (orange tees) for the window. Lower the window about 1/2 way and unbolt it first and then go on to the regulator bolts.

Once it's out chances are good that one of the four plastic fasteners that the cable passes through is broken or the cable is frayed and not reeving properly on the drum binding the sliding window bar. If you're lucky it's just binding from being dirty and a good clean and lube will make it like new. Remove the motor to clean the regulator if you go this route. Chances are slim it will only be dirty. Good luck.

The pic shows the regulator with the motor removed. The assembly is oriented about how you'll see it in the door.

Yep, it's the regulator...just replaced mine 2 weeks ago. Good luck finding one though, I checked at all of the local junkyards and they used their little computer to search 10,000 miles from where they are to see if they could have one shipped, still nothing. I got mine on eBay which is good as a last resort. Good luck.

False economy to replace a used worn now broken window regulator with another used worn soon to fail regulator- purchase brand new from Infiniti of scottsdale and forget about it for the next 100,000 miles.

Thanks for your reply and photograph, this really helps and so I guess that determines what I am going to be doing this afternoon. I will report back with what I find.

Failure to perform preventative M on rubber channels and regulator. Not keeping them clean and lubricated ALLOWING them to wear out the motor faster and hassening replacement costs.

So what do the red and yellow tees signify?

The red tees are the window bracket bolts. The yellow tees show the locations of the seven 10mm bolts holding the regulator in place to the inside door frame.

To the OP....after you've rolled the window down half way and removed the two bolts from the bracket holding the window, manually pull the window up and wedge it in position so it's out of the way while you unbolt and pull out the regulator.

Thank you for your help and advice

I have solved the problem, well almost.

Following your instructions, I removed the regulator and motor. The channel was clean but there was very little grease left. I cleaned it all out and re-greased it with lithium based grease. Before refitting it, I operated the motor via the door switch and everything moved smoothly and quickly. However, I realized that this was not a perfect test without the weight of the window glass.

I then refitted the assembly and before fully tightening the bolts, I checked the operation again but now with the window glass attached. I actually compared the speed at which the window traveled upwards compared to the passenger side and they were now equal.

Finally I tightened all the bolts fully and then rechecked the operation before re-fitting the door panel. This time the rate of travel was slower than the passenger side but still very much improved compared to before the re-greasing effort.

Next steps will be to see if there is any adjustment in the alignment of the regulator or window guides which could affect how easily the glass moves.

Good news. With plastic end pieces that were intact, a cable that wasn't frayed and a good lube the regulator should outlive you. About the only thing I would have done different is to clean the regulator with the motor removed (3 screws) while you had it out of the door. When you get it cleaned and lubed the window bar slides up and down the channel with little resistance.

You'll get a little more improvement by spraying some lube down the channels on the right and left side of the window and cleaning and Armor Alling the rubber window seal.
