"bad" PTU's will normally cause your idle to change intermediatly or will not allow the veh to start at all. Check the PTU by swapping it out with a known working unit. Also, check the harness/wires connecting it for oxidation (green residue that builds up wires and connector tips). If on there, clean them with a flat head screwdrivers and coat the connectors with diaelectric grease. Chances are it's the harness itself, you can always eliminate the subharness by hard wiring the connections with connectors and finally relocate it.

Usually that solves most PTU wearies.

Z32's had a recall on them. call 1-800-Nissan-1 and give them your vin number and they will tell you if you've had yours replaced. if not, get it done, it's free

If the PTU looks like this then (see below) your recall has been done. The older PTU sucked *** and was the same used in the R32. *note- that was recalled as well.

This is also a great location to relocate the ptu as well.

1) in it's in a much cooler location, so corrosion should be halted a bit as well as moisture. 2) ease of replacement, the stock unit is not a total pain in the butt to get to but you still gotta pull the intake hoses off to access it and test it. Also, remember you have your timing loop there as well. 3) cleans up the area a bit as well.

So i have a 1990 300zx and i just got off the phone with nissan and they said there are no recalls for my VIN. i do still have the old style ptu and i dont know if i should be concerned or not. My car runs pretty good right now but i think it could be better, idle uneven and rough when coasting with the clutch in.
