A question I have, all other shifting point questions ask about RPMs, baah cars with mods respond differently, MY question is where is the best point to shift, at the peak of the torque line or the peak of the HP line? Or what is it 5500RPM(isnt that where the torque and HP are the same, I dont know?)?

The higher in a gear you go, the higher your power will be in the next gear and the higher the speed, just think about that....

Well I just figured why keep going up in the gear when your torque/HP is going down? Why not shift at the peak point before it drops so It goes back into the powerband of near its highest again? Why have all the power, lose some, shift, get it back. When you can get all the power, shift, still have all the power.

It's worth waiting to shift a little later because the small drop in HP at the top of the band, is compinsated by being higher up in the powerband when you go to the next higher gear. This is useful UNLESS you have a close ratio transmission, which the stock 240 transmission doesnt.

PS: Torque and HP always cross at 5252PPS: 100th Post!!!!!!!!Ryan

5252 is true. However, I would shift at redline, or a little before to get myself up as high as possible in the next gear.

when my 240 was bone stock I shifter at 5500-6000. When I raced if I went past that the other car started to pull so I had to shift. Now that I have exhaust Ill run it all the way to 7000-7200 because it pulls hard all the way to it. But sometimes in 2nd I can feel the power loss after 6500, but 1st an 3rd Ill run the gear all the way out. I pull on vtecs in 3rd even more after 5500.

7200 is where the rev limiter is positioned in a ka motor. I wouldn't take it up that high unless I were turbo. 6800 is plenty high.

you want to shift so the difference in power is minium between gears, this usually means around 6500 or so for most 240's....if they're modded heavily a bit higher.-chet

When you need too win a race an you see your still pulling you go as far as you can. But normally Im right around 6800.
