Can someone help me here? I have a 1998 Infinity QX4. the QX4 suffers from a lack of power. Can someone tell me where I might find an air intake system (Pipe & filter) for my QX4. If I can not purchase one I might just have to make something, any suggestions.

Does anyone offer aftermarket items for the QX4 ?

does the nissas pathfinder use the same parts?

so it sounds like are you QX4 and pathfinder owners have no idea where you can find an air intake made for our vehicles, or have never attempted to make something that works better than the stock set up

If you wanted extra power air intake is going to do next to nothing. I would recommend getting a custom exhaust system on it, but other than that there's not much you can do without spending $$$$$$$$$$$$.

solution for intake. i used an xterra/frontier intake with minor modifications. i personally don't think its worth it. i barley feel a power gain. only sometimes. you can also try jwt pop charger.

Thanks for the picture. Glad to see someone has tried this. In my 98QX4 the engine I believe (????) is a different engine than yours. mine only has something like 160HP and anything that will help it would be an improvement. I'm thinking maybe I'll take the simple method to start. I'll take the plastic air box and cut some big holes facing the fender which would be the coolest side of the engine compartment. This will tell me if the added air made any improvement. If no then it hasn't cost me anything, If yes then maybe I'll purchase a better air filter, or buy some tubing and fittings and do it myself.

I see the custom exhaust was mentioned above...i went that route and had a dual exhaust made. Besides the obvious sound difference i am getting slightly better gas mileage and a bit more pick up. Nothing drastic but hey i had an exhaust leak somewhere so i just decided to replace the whole thing.

What'd that run you? Did you go all the way from the cat? Thinking of that to add to my project list

I haven't calculated the difference but with the exhaust and a tune up i could tell that i wasn't filling up as often and everything just felt better overall

the Mpg difference is probably minimal at best, but as for horsepower goes depending on what kind of exhaust system you get might gain 5 HP or so, it's mostly for that extra growly sound. If you're looking for actual noticeable power you need to go the supercharged route or different engine.

I have modified my stock air box by adding a 2" hole to allow more air entering the air filter, and I removed the two roof rack bars to reduce drag. and it would appear that the QX4 is more responsive. so needless to say I believe i pick up a few free Horse powers. My wife even asked me the other day what I did to it because she said it's better to drive now.

I have done the same, and havent looked back. The QX4 is slightly louder but only when laying it down, I love it. I noticed a huge difference at Baja freeway speeds on cool days - it really surprised me. But still slow on hot days.

Did you cut a hole on the engine side or the fender side?

I went for one hole about 2" size, about the size size as the stock air hole. Yesterday we were driving and it was a hot day and we didn't notice that the heat effected it in any way. when the stock filter gets dirty i might replace with a washable type

For me, when its hot out, it feels like it always has. But when the outside temp drops below 70, and im cruising on the freeway, im going 90 mph before I know it, and NOTHING like that ever happened before the airbox mod. I was so used to the slowness of the QX4 that suddenly going faster than expected was quite a pleasant surprise!

I noticed that I don't have to step into the gas as much to get moving or to maintain a set speed. so nice. Now i'm thinking what would be another quick and cheap fix?
