Noticed someone made a thread but my question is a little different. So I have a small leak on my rack on the driver side. Its rather small and usually doesnt spill a ton but at some point I'm out of power steering. Maybe after a day of driving and parking it overnight

I just had my belts replaced. Did the whole 120k kit at a shop. Do I have to replace the entire rack? Does Lucas stop leak work or recommended to try?

Also how much should I be looking to spend for something like this?

Thanks

I would swap the rack or rebuild it. A rebuild kit can set you back around $50 if you shop around. Having one rebuilding will set you back around $150 depending on the shop. I haven't priced out a reman rack from autozone or orielly though so I don't know what a "new" one is going for, I'd guess around $200-$225.

If you loose a reservoirs worth of fluid in a day, stop leak will not be sufficient. You need the rebuild. I wouldn't even use the stop leak as a band aid because I imagine it could make the rebuild project a bit stickier or gummed up. Could be hoses and pump also. What looks like a small leak while the car is sitting there could be a huge leak when the car is in use.

As mentioned above a rebuild or replacement is your best bet, in my experience stop-leak of any kind is a bandaid that doesn't ever last and in some cases can cause gelling, sludging, and other unwanted results.
