I am simply wondering if anyone here has used PS stop leak for very minor PS leaks (less than a couple of drops per night, 2 DPN?)... I went to autozone today and thought about getting some PS stop leak from lucas, but decided not to last minute..... until i asked...

I used the lucas on an old '78 GMC truck with noisy and leaky PS. The leaks slowed down but they were really bad. It did make a big difference on the noise and smoothness of the PS. Doubt your's is having any noise or smoothness issues tho. I'd use it.

Wes, have you pin-pointed the leak? If so, where is it?

Lucas works pretty well I've used it a few times on P.S. system in different cars. The only thing is if you use the whole bottle your P.S. fluids viscosity changes which is fine unless you live in a very cold environment but, will be fine after vehicle warms up on cold morning start ups.

First off, I'm not sure about power steering "Stop Leak", but if its anything like the stuff they make for coolant leaks, I'd avoid it like the plague.

The '91 motor I pulled out of the G20 went bad because someone poured "STOP LEAK" into the coolant system.

It ended up plugging the water jacket between cylinders 1 & 2.

The walls between the 2 cylinders buckled and they became 1 for about an inch from the deck.

Again this was the stuff for coolant leaks, but I've avoided them all together since then.

The liquid aluminum is not an actual Bars product. They get it from another manufacturer and stick their otherwise trustworthy name on it. The powder and pellets they sell, however, are harmless and effective.

That coolant stuff is totally different than the PS stop leak and is safe.

Seeing that pic of the Bar's Stop Leak brings back memories. Back in the early 70's I blew the head gasket on my 1964 Datsun Bluebird (4Dr, 4 Cyl, positive ground) in Yosemite Valley. I poured a bottle of Bar's in the radiator and within about 10 minutes of driving through the park the white cloud of steam disappeared and I was able to drive the 200 miles back to L.A. with no problems. Great stuff, but I don't know if I would pour it in the Q's radiator if I had my AAA card in my wallet.

I have lucas in mine now. Bought car may '04, the only visible problem was the leaky rack. I added about 1/3 bottle, leak stopped. I actually just added a small portion about 2wks ago...just because!

I used it on Layla about 140,000 miles ago. The rack boots were toast, and the whole bottom of the car was wet, No visible leaks, but fluid everywhere. I tightened all the hoses, replaced the boots, and put in some Lucas. The stuff worked, and I have experienced no adverse effects. I say, "Go For It!"

Why do you think it is leaking?

Time to do my post on ATF as PS in Infiniti mechanic.

Wes, please call me before you do this.

thanks for the heads up!

I have a leak, and didn't even think to look for a fluid solution to repair it!!

I got quoted $150 to replace the affected hose by a hydraulic hose fitter!!

I am sure the lucas PS stop leak will work.

Thanks Wes!

Hey Wes, by any chance, did you end up using the Lucus PS stop leak oil? If you did, how did it work. Just figured out I have a small leak as well...was considering trying it before going having to replace the hoses. Seems like others have had good experiences.

i never used it.. The leak seemed to subside, I changed the fluid and it seemed to help. It still leaks a tiny bit but not enough to leave a mark.. there is probably no nissan on earth that doesnt leak a little PS fluid.

I'd have good luck with Trans-X, which is advertised as an AT/PS seal conditioner/leak stopper - claims to restore some flexibility to old, hardened gaskets and O-rings. Unfortunately, it's not a one-time fix - you have to re-add it periodically.

I used Lucas on my Green Q, and it was leaking a .5 quart a day before. Haven't had a leak since! I only used one bottle, and Lucas has guarantee that if it doesnt work, they will give you a full refund!-EQwhipD

Lucas worked great on my brother's G20. To pass inspection, we had to get the hose replaced anyway.

What type of Power Steering fluid is Infinity's supose to use? ATF (Dextron III) or regular GM based Power steering fluid?
