Hey guys

I noticed that sometimes when I am turning the steering wheel, that it sometimes feels as if it is slipping.

Sometimes you will be pulling to the right (cant' remember if it happens to the left also) it will feel like something is slipping and jerks the wheel a little bit.

The rack has been replaced already.

Is is possibly the pump itself.

I dont hear any noises when turning the wheel.

Also at low speeds the wheel feels a little heavy and feels as if it requires more hand power to turn.

Then sometimes it feels really easy to turn.

Could be the belt slipping, check for tightness. I assume the fluid level is correct. Pumps almost never fail.

What is the condition of your fluid? What is your service history for the pump and rack?

fluid level is always correct

I dont know if the PS has been flushed but I believe it was mentioned to the previous owner.

The fluid looks fine.

The fluid condition was mentioned to the previous owner, but there is no service record of it being replaced, but it looks fine? How many miles on the car?

Something is not quite hanging together here.

Follow the FSM to determine if the PS pressure controller module is functioning or intermittent by measuring the drive voltage to the pressure control bypass solenoid.

Probably time to fail 14-15 years, since you replaced the rack proves system abuse.I assume new rack mount bushings were replaced along with rack?

First as far as the ps fluid

The fluid looks fine but a mechanic heard about the symptoms and then suggested a flush.

Q45 tech where exactly is the module/solenoid that you spoke of.

Also unrelated but where is the sensor located that reads brakelight voltage.

I think I may have the classic issue.

Doesn't read the brake light voltage , reads and compares the current flow between left and right and upper bulb assemblies.Under trim - drivers side rear bottom trunk lip.

Owner abuse not checking and changing bulbs at intervals instead of waiting till they burn out! You get to pay big bucks for failure to change bulbs.........sockets, modules, tickets---pull overs and strip searches, DUI's, prison all because you didn't perform bulb maintenance.

Read your FSM and follow instructions for steering testing, the steering module is buried inside dash but the test points are in the diagnostic connector and on rack solenoid.

I just love Q45 techs passion on these cars.

It makes me feel that if someone comes in for a repair on their Q the price at T3 is like punishment.

OOOOOOh BAD BAD BOY!!!

Thanks for the info though.
