I took my car out the other day after letting it sit for a month, and the power steering pump went. Does one from an s12 work? Or is this DET-specific? I don't have a whole lot of money so I was considering just capping off the rack and running it manual for a while. Would that be okay? Any tips for me if I do this? Happy 4th of July boys (and girl), go get really hammered-a$s drunk.

the DE KA pump works, there was a thread a month ago here about it...

and if u wanna run it dry the only thing i can recomend it draining what u can from the rack... and breaking the ends off u hardlines and crimping the ends to trap fluid in it...

i didnt do that and when i reconnected my pump for p/s goodness it went to the crapper in less than a week, so im still running MT rack...its fun but yeah if u dont trap fluid in there and u re hook it to the pump itll crap out quick...it did for me, but then again i was runnign it dry for about 6 months

Sounds good. I am going to put some bolts in the rack and trap fluid inside until I can get my hands on another pump.

I got really drunk last night. Made it through 2 hamburgers, 4 hot dogs, 2 ears of corn and 16 beers before I vomed. Good times.

i dont think u want to plug it up completely...if u plug it and air and fluid is preassurized..ur gonna have a really big turning problem...the reason i said crimp the ends if because u want air to still flow in and out ...atleast thats what i was tld and from what everyone else i know does... when u crimp them just point them up...

and if u need a pump i might be able to help u...just give me a week to get it

Yeah guys, for future reference do not just plug the holes coming out of the rack. I built up enough pressure just backing it out the garage to blow out the big bolt. It was pretty awesome. It must have made it ten feet and shot fluid at least six.

So anyway you need to loop the two lines together. Once I did that the steering lightened up a whole hell of a lot. Still not sure if I like it quite this heavy though, so I may be trolling around for a new/used pump sometime in the future.
