Has anyone out there rebuilt their steering pump? The only info I've found is a guy rebuilding one in the 240 forum. I assume it's similar, but...

Can't say I've messed with it. Is there a rebuild kit for it that you've found? Mine is leaking but I've been just keeping it topped off until I have time to mess with it.

So far I've found a couple kits at the discount stores from $25-34. I've already replaced it about 6 years ago, but don't want to pay a fortune for another one $115-400, depending. The Beck-Arnley's are 3-400. It doesn't look too difficult, but what about the quality of kits, etc..

Somebody rebuilds these things...

They fail so rarely, I think I'd consider a used part if you can find one that doesn't have a gazillion miles on it...

After my Q sat for so long the original pump was noisy and it had a small leak.. I tried putting in a new seal kit that didn't work.. So one night I decided to try a rebuilt Fenco pump from Advance Auto.. The Fenco pump ended my problem..I think they are in the $155 range.. I've been running the Fenco for over a year without issue.. It does have a lifetime warrant.

Thanks, the Fence here from Advanced is 197+30 core. Mine was replaced about 6 or so years ago. Crazy I know, but aside from cost, I thought it might be fun to rebuild.

Owner'S; sounds like the shaft on yours was worn.

John, since you are going to replace it any way, why not take it apart to see if something you can handle. I took one apart years ago from a Mitsubishi Diamante which would have been cost $500 from the dealership. All it needed was a bearing replacement and I went ahead and replaced the O rings. The cost for the bearing, o rings and labor for pressing it in was less then $20. It ended up out last the car itself.

Yeah, like I said, might be "fun", so I'm going to order the kit.

After getting everything cleaned up and run, then rechecked, it wasn't the pump. The line was leaking. Just haven't found a real good clamp for it. Got a "better" one and cranked it down, still a drip once and a while, but no need to rebuild at this time. :eekdance

Low pressure line? In either case, if the fittings are still good, a decent hydraulic shop can install them on new hoses.
