My mechanic says that the medium high pitch hum I hear coming from engine compartment is a faulty POWER STEERING PUMP. I also feel a slight difference in the feel of the steering.A) is my mechanic correct?B) is this a difficult repair?C) any instructions available for removing/replacing said PS pump

Thanks

I wonder how much diagnosis he did. Pump diagnosis is very rare except in cases of extreme owner neglect by failing to periodically change the fluid.

Belt idler pully bearings are very common failures, and they sound almost identical to a power steering pump howl. I would get a mechanic's stethoscope like this and pinpoint the source of your noise.
