Hey I have just completed a full on swap from my tired old KA to one with a lot less miles and a 5 speed swap on my 95 240. I got the beast started and the power steering pump that was on the transplant engine decided to take a crap on me and proceeded to spray PS fluid all over my car. We screwed out the nipple that the return line bolts onto and the threads inside the pump itself came out with the nipple so that one is done. We then put the PS pump on from my engine and the leaks disapeared but it makes this weird tappng sound, kinda like the timing chain rattle but not as severe. We tracked the noise down to the PS pump with a stethoscope so I know thats what is making the noise. My GF's dad says that there is air in the system and that the pwoblem should work its way out its a couple of days, but I would like a professional opinion before I take the car out on the road.I have my PS pump which has a good body but possibly bad internals and I have the other PS pump that has a bad body but good internals, is it possible to swap out the internals from the one to put into mine or no. I really don't have the funds to go get a new PS pump because they are damned expensive even for a reman one.

Both PS pumps that I have are for a 95 KA, but the one I took of has 100K less miles on the internals, just the threads are completely stripped out of the return side nipple. Thanks for any help you guys can give, I really dont want to drive on a bad PS pump if I can help it because I I dont want to screw up the rest of the steering hydraulic system.

Im not a pro but i do know a bit. The answer to your main question but i do know a bit. Iv never heard of a powersteering pump go out with clicking sounds as you describe but i do know you can run a pump into the ground without worrying about the rest of your steering components. Just make sure you have the propor amount of fluid in the resovoir and you should be good to go. Also, it normaly will take quite a while for a PS pump to go bad to the point where they just stop presurizing the fluid. Hope this helps
