I have a 1995 Q45, and suddenly I am having intermittent
problems with power streering. It is full with power steering fluid, and we changed it out and added fresh fluid. But it is still happening. Power steering is still intermittent. Does it have a power steering pump or module of some sort? Any ideas or help? Thanks.

does the pump seem to be making any weird noises? Do you hear any weird noises at all, or does the steering just sometimes go stiff?

If the latter is the case, does the speedometer ever drop to 0 when this happens?

Reason I am asking is the Q has variable assist power steering and most of the time if this happens it loses signal from the speed sensor, or there is a pressure solenoid on the steering rack itself. Usually if the speedo drop to 0 when this happens, then the instrument cluster is bad. Otherwise, it could be the solenoid or a wiring issue somewhere.

Exactly what type of power steering fluid does the '95 Q45 use?

I've had various opinions (including the agents themselves) - some say ATF, some say mineral oil, some say synthetic hydraulic oil... Reason why I'm asking this is that I had intermittent power steering on my wife's Audi A8. Turns out she put in ATF instead of hydraulic oil. Flushing the system and putting in the correct fluid solved the problem.

I still would like to know what my Q45 is supposed to use, though.

:welcome: to Nico!

The Q uses ATF for the power steering fluid. If you don't have your owner's manual, you can download one at www.infinititechinfo.com under the publications tab at the top of the screen.
