Hey,

It all started last year. Wheel handling became stiff. I let mechanic see what the problem is and he replaced the P/S pump. But that didn't fix anything. I continued to drive it like that. About two weeks ago, after five hours on open sun (100 F), wheel became extremely easy to handle. Everything was like it was before. I hoped it would last forever, but it lasted few days and now everything is the same. Does anybody know what could be the problem, cause I doubt that the P/S pump is failing, cause it's new. Also, I was trying to follow the manual procedure (checking voltages) but I dont know where to begin cause I dont know where Power Steering Control Unit is located. If anyone knows, pictures/schemes would be very good .

Anyway, if somebody had the same problems, please let me know. I think it's not the P/S pump because manual is stating that the P/S system is controlled by speed sensor and if it fails, P/S defaults to "fail-safe" condition common when driving under high speed = stiff wheel during high mph.

Thanks in advance

I've used the stuff available from Nissan. Up here it costs the same as an aftermarket PS fluid found in any auto store.

I have a similar prob. there is a leakage on the high pressure hose taking the fluid to the pump. Listen to the noise it makes when you start it. I suggest that you carry around a bottle of power steering fluid and keep feeding it every morning before you drive off. I am looking for used hose because Nissan charges 360 for it!

Insanity. A hydraulics shop should be able to crimp one up for $30.

Check the yellow pages for hydraulics. If you take in your hose, they should be able to remove the current ends, put in a fresh section of hydraulic hose and re-crimp the ends, probably while you watch.
