I've run the CA both ways and I'm happy to say that I HATED it w/o power steering. Maybe if you could find some sort of non-power steering rack from an old Datusun it wouldn't be so bad.

ahh u dont have powersteering on the 510, i thought it was ok because its a light car? Oh yeah, and i didnt have powersteering on my s13 before and it was annoying at first. But normal driving is actually pretty cool. I missed it right when i got powersteering back because that was the only time I worked out haha.

My s13 doesn't have powersteering, I don't mind it too much. All though I do plan on putting power steering on it in the near future. I will most likely use a fwd sr pump(as I have a couple laying around from 200sx projects), and fabricate a bracket and some lines. When? I don't know... I have a lot of other projects going on, but power steering for the s13 is definately on my "list".

I capped the lines on the rack on my old FC3S. It was really ok until I tried to park in a tight spot in a parking lot. I want to see if I can find a manual rack from a Nissan pickup that may work. I have heard that there is one that measures to fit, but I don't recall if it worked out...

As far as touge-ing, road racing, kanjo-ing, etc. go wouldnt having the assist of the pump help in overall control of the car, steering response? Similar to how ABS helps control braking.

Indeed. Not so much in road racing (if the circuit is big enough), but in togue or autox (gymkhana) ps would for sure be a benefit. And our cars don't have overpowered ps, and a decently quick rack (espcially if you switch to a HICAS rack) so I think keeping the ps is a plus.

Swap to a HICAS rack and get a GTO (or the like) steering bushing, and a good set of tires, and your steering will be all kinds of awesome.

I knew it! See that was my impression on it. Its like saying "Remove vacuum brake assist and you can still brake as equal as having brake assist." Unlikely, but i dont see it happening. The help of the pump and its mechanical advantage would only seem like a better choice when youre talking about turning a 1200+kg car around a tight corner. Let a machine help you do the job just like in braking. Then take it further and toss in an "ABS-esque" type controlling device....

Sorry im getting carried away i just blazed not too long ago...

What would be REAL fun is to swap on one of those older super high pressure civic ps pumps. There were something stupid like 100psi at lower speeds. The idea was to make parking eaiser, but it would kick in at a weird speed, usually mid turn, so you drive into a curb if you weren't watching it.

Speaking of power steering... any of you get a hicas PS pump with your motorset and want to donate it to me? My PS pump ate itself a few weeks ago and I HATE driving around with no PS. It's hard to maneuver parking lots with a coffee (or other beverage) in your hand...motherf'n cupholderless cars.
