Has anyone ever thought/tried of taking some fins out of the front half of our PS pumps (I assume it's similar to the rear half)? I would assume it would need to be done in a way that the assembly is still balanced, but I thought this might bring back some feeling from the rather numb power steering we have.

Love to hear some opinions...

Ive go PS on mine and removed the rear fins. one problem encountered was getting the C clip off to get to the front of the assembly. Since you are dealing with a hicas unit the output is increased and a lack of the distributor being there makes for that numbness. i didnt like it myself but there are JDM boxes that can Dial down the PS to give a more "feeling". I drove for over a year w/o ps and i prefer not driving with it...but parallel parking sux w/o it.

Do you know how they dial it down? If it is electrical... I could most likely make it on my own without to much trouble. Thanks for the help! I would run without it, but countersteering with it is much easier...

Cool... that might help as well. Hybrid and I were talking about it last night and we both think steering is to numb now and something needs to be done to bring back the feel. I wonder if one of those is enough. Thanks for getting back on subject nick.

No... never did it... but I wonder if a larger pulley might do the trick as well. Probably a better option if it is available.

Yeah cool Thanks for answering all my post I was thinking about using a Unorthodox Racing WRX PS pulley and turning the steel hub upside down and then pressing it onBut i doubt I'll do it, cause I'm really lazy and if I mess up installing the pulley it wont come off w/ destroying it

Both the front and the back pumps (or just the front for non-HICAS) regulate pressure using a bypass valve located in the discharge port. If you remove the port (the part that banjo bolt bolts into), you will see what I mean.

It is just a spring loaded valve, and I bet you can change the discharge pressure by changing the spring strength. That would be my preferred way of changing the pressure since it leaves the internals essentially unmodified. Alternatively, you could try to install a bleeder in the discharge line (maybe use the pressure switch port?).

Completely disassembling the pump is easy. The only thing holding everything on the shaft is that one small c-clip vududoc spoke of. But the clip is easy to remove... you just slide it upwards over a small bump on the shaft.
