I have a problem with my power steering. Im guessing its something big because lucas formula for power steering leaks didnt even work (money back guarantee if it doesnt work). I'm wondering how hard is it to switch out the hoses for the power steering? Will it be pricey?

Funny Lucas will refund you the cost of the power steering leak stopper after it ruins your PS hydraulics!

Get the hoses from Joe, or if you fittings are good, you may be able to find some hydraulic shop to make you some new ones with your old fittings.

Power Steering system which by its hydraulic fluid pressure the steering rack is power assisted.

One of the board acronyms.

Expensive? Hell YES! Figure $400 min at Dealer.

Unless you learn some more about the vehicle by reading the forum a while. Then with $100 in tools and jack stands you can remove the leaking hose(s) , take them to HiLo or equivalent where they make up hoses, and pay $30 for new hose, instead of $200.

The question is whether you have one leaking hose, or one leaking hose and another leakin hose that will fail sometime soon. I replaced one hose on my '92 Q only to find the other leaked, just a whole lot less. I think when you buy the hoses from Infiniti, the two sides come as a single part (correct me if I am wrong).

I did luck out though, I pulled one hose from the junkyard that was obviously a recent replacement, and had the other rebuilt at the "Hose Shop". Hose shps build these for about 50% of list proce for replacment (66% of Scottsdale's price)

The high and low pressure hoses are each their own part number.

I have a PS leak and was thinking of Lucas. I heard their PS leak stuff is the only thing that is good. Is everyone here in agreement that Lucas is a no no?

I just don't trust anything that is a "fix in a can" - if it plugs up a hole in a hose, I just don't see how it doesn't plug other things.

I have a thread here somewhere about rebuilding hoses but I can't seem to find it...

Lucas isnt going to help a leaking HOSE. It might help on connections or something where you get a seeping...

FWIW i think you can use standard fuel hose or whatever for the low pressure hoses (the hoses that go from the pump to the resovoir). Nothing seems to special about them...

Personalyl for me, if your car is leaking only enough for lucas to do something, live with the leak! my car will leave about a 3-4 quarter sized spot on the driveway if I let the car sit for a few weeks.

I have a leak but it's so little that I can't tell at the checking the dipstick in the pump. I just see little spots on the floor. Live with it?

from what I understand on the power steering, there is a send hose and a return hose from the power steering pump. The send hose is a pressure hose and that hose is very expensive (even from Joe in Scottsdale). Depending on if you have an active Q or standard suspension, the send (high pressure hose) will run you about $400.

Q gurus correct me if I am wrong. Hope that helps
